Being as U2 is on the Island Records label which is a subsidiary of Universal Records, if they do make it to hi-rez, chances are that it would be on SACD as that is the way Universal is going at the present time. Whether or not they would also get released on DVD-A remains to be seen as...
Keith, I'm not aware of any US dealers that carry any of the Japanese DVD-A's which is a shame as there are some good titles. Some time back there was an individual who listed several of them on ebay including the Sonny Rollins title. I bid on it and a couple of others but was outbid on all...
I don't actually listen to any Christmas music at home, but it's on all the radio stations. I hear enough of it driving to and from work. I will say however that it's not offically Chrismas until I hear "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer".
Keith, Both the Chuck Mangione and Christy Baron DVD-A titles have long been available through Music Direct although I just checked their site and it looks like the Chuck Mangione title is Out Of Stock and they're down to their last copy of "Steppin'". As for the Sonny Rollins and Art Pepper...
Keith, Forget ordering the sampler. Just break down and order the "Nitty Gritty Surround" title. I guarantee you won't be disappointed as I know you like Alison Krauss. In addition, when you order, they'll throw the sampler in for nada.
Keith, Have you ever checked out any DVD-A's by Hi-Res Music. If not you really should check out their stuff. I know you're a stereo lover and that's all they do. 24/96 stereo only DVD'A's. Some great jazz titles. I just picked up their newest release, Leon Russell: Leon Russell and it's awsome...
The following titles have been released in both formats. Bucky Pizzarelli: Swing Live (Chesky) Christy Baron: Steppin' (Chesky) (Europe) Chuck Mangione:Everything For Love (Chesky) (Europe) Bryan Ferry: Frantic (EMI/Virgin) (Europe) Deep Purple: Deep Purple With the R.P.O./Concerto for...
Mike, Where are you purchasing the Tacet titles from? I've heard very good comments on their stuff and even though I'm not real big on classical I'd like to get a copy of "Bach: 6 Complete Brandenburg Concertos".
Keith, Agreed. I'm glad to see AIX get so many nominations as Mark really puts his heart and soul into their releases and are some of my very favorite DVD-A's. The amount of content on the discs make them some of the best "bang for the buck" going.
Keith, you're correct. Both the Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Byrds titles are previous stereo SACD's that are now being released as multichannel. Sony's had a few on the back burner for release in mc for sometime now including the previously mentioned "Texas Flood".
Interesting news up at the High Fidelity Review site concerning the Nominees for the 2002 Surround Music Awards. This year both DVD-A and SACD will be recognized alongside standard-resolution (Dolby Digital and DTS) surround projects specifically created for multi-channel presentation. The full...
Keith, as Lee noted this info could be dated as the magazine has an obvious lead time for printing. They have been fairly correct in the past however as they get their info direct from the industry whereas the online sites get their release dates from the distributors. I guess time will tell on...
For those that are interested, the newest ICE magazine shows the following upcoming SACD's and DVD-A's with release dates. I know some of these have already been mentioned, but I'm listing again in case someone missed them. A few are new announcements. No word as to whether or not the SACD's are...
The Best Buy here in Reno has been much better in the past couple of months for getting new SACD's. Still located in the very back corner of the store, but at least they are getting new titles. The only problem is that the new titles usually don't show up till after they've been out for a month...
I don't mind the single layered as it's rare that I listen to cd's outside the house anyway. I've had a cd player in my pickup for three years and I can count on two hands the number of cd's I've played in it. In any case, I can't wait to hear BOC's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" in surround.
"The Greatest Hits" as released on SACD was a compilation set, the tracks of which were licensed for release by DCC in 1990. It was mastered by Steve Hoffman then, so it was just a matter of him remastering the set for SACD release. "Odessey & Oracle" however is owned by Warner/Rhino and...
Grant, If you can locate it, look for "The EP Collection". It is considered the definitive Lonnie Donegan collection of his work up through 1962. Released in 1992, it contains 24 tracks, all of which were remastered with original artwork represented and a very detailed biography. For his...
Anthony,
I agree. This will make for a great stocking stuffer.
Brent,
Both the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and "Surf's Up" titles were announced for DVD-A over a year ago. The following link is the latest news concerning "Pet Sounds". They state the title due out in Jan '03. The actual date is...
Sadly I came across this news earlier today. Strange that I hadn't read anything on his passing in the news. For those of you who are unfamilar with the name, Lonnie Donnegan probably best known here in the U.S. for his hit "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight" had a...
