Interesting thought, Steve. I wonder what Guy would have to say about this approach. I remember reading somewhere why blue bars is the preferred method for setting tint, but I can't remember exactly why right now.
Well, I appreciate all the effort you put into explaining this stuff to us, Guy. One of my (serious) hobbies is digital imaging. I've spent countless hours calibrating my scanner, computer display, and printer, and know how frustrating it can be. And this with software and hardware tools (Q60...
Well, I used AXNT to fix the red push problem on my Wega (as you noticed in a different thread), but then here's the question: are there controls on higher end TVs that will allow a person to adjust color decoder accuracy? Is it even possible to resolve color decoder problems (without the sorts...
Well, for that money I would have suggested either the Sony 32FV27 or 32FS17. Or the JVC 32F802. I know, it's the one I returned because of the geometry problems and light vertical srtipe, but if one could be had without the problems I saw I would consider it a great set. If you were inclined to...
Hi Guy. I've used Avia on a number of TVs over the years with good results, but I noticed something odd with my new Sony 32FV27. On the Needle Pulse with Steps display I can't get either the black lines to bend, or make the white bars disappear (indicating White Clipping). It seems even with the...
I've started tweaking my Sony 32FV27 set. First, let me assure everyone that the first thing I did was to write down the values of every single service code (I've done this kind of thing before.) I disabled red push, but now here's the dilemma. I used the blue bars in Avia to set the Tint, and...
Steve_jc, what happens if you set AXNT to 0 and AXPL to 1? Do you get a washed out effect like SteveK does?
On my FV27, I can definitely see an effect on both Avia and VE color bars when both AXPL and AXNT are fooled with. Your logic makes sense; I could see where AXNT would be for NTSC and...
That's the exact thought I had, Jeremy. I have a rather nice photgraphic light meter that can read reflected light in a narrow aperture. I wonder what 20-30 fl equates to on a photo light meter.
I have no real problem in this area, Randy. The very first thing I did was go into the service menu and write down the values for every single service code. I also know enough not to do things like turn off all the color guns (ouch!).
What's intersting, though, is that there doesn't seem to be...
Jeff, this is a little scary sounding. You either have the worst luck on the planet, or this is a common problem with 36" Wegas. I had a 32FV27 delivered from Sears, and they did the same thing (turn the box over, etc...). I don't notice on mine what you have described. Maybe the smaller mask on...
That's the question. The Keohi site says set AXPL to 1 to turn red push off, but Chuckster's Wega enthusiast site says set it to 0. Which is it? And what about AXNT?
I didn't really want a HDTV, Bill. I'm on the pessimistic side of the fence when it comes to when HDTV will be widely available, and whether a standard will be selected that current TVs can't support. Besides, a lot of my viewing is cable broadcast (still analog).
I wound up with the 32FV27...
I bought the 32F802, Brad. I'm not even sure the 32AV320 is a current model. The F802 is JVC's top of the line 32" Flat Screen model. Oh, it's a beautiful set, but it had a couple of flaws I could not get rid of (even with the service menu). I was going to have a technician come in and service...
