Any feedback? Should I start shopping for a new receiver or is there something else that I should try? At least there should be deals going on this time of year...
I forgot to mention, I swapped the speakers left/right and it stayed on the right side, so it's not the speaker. I also tried a different optical input and same thing. I keep hoping I find a setting that's just messed up or somebody will tell me, "Oh that's common on those. Here's how you fix it."
I have a Yamaha RX-V2095 receiver with Bose 601 Series III mains, all nearly 15yrs old. The center and surrounds are newish Infinity. The system is used primarily for Xbox gaming (connected via optical), TV, and rarely movies. Over the past few months on and off it will sound like the right main...
Almost invisible probably won't be invisible enough for her. :( If I do go that route, to which jack would I connect the single wire? There are 2 jacks both labeled "AM Loop" and neither say "ground" or "antenna".
My girlfriend has a component receiver in a small built-in cabinet in her living room. It's connected to speakers that are installed in the ceiling in several rooms. This was all installed when the house was built, and it wasn't done very well. The FM antenna was just a short piece of coax...
Robert, are these software packages or hardware? I looked them up and I am confused, espcially with Audyssey as I see they sell a lot of very nice and very expensive equipment.
Thanks guys so much for all the help in this thread, especially Robert.
I had a couple buddies over that are into home theater, I asked them to critique my setup and they both agreed that it sounds fantastic given that it still needs some tweaking on the levels and considering the room in...
Thanks, will try that.
What am I listening for exactly?
Oh, and can somebody point me to a "speaker balancing for dummies"? I've been reading about balancing the subwoofer and my very modest understanding of adjusting levels is completely oversaturated. All of this "-10db" type of stuff has...
Got it up and running. I only used one of the 20oz packages. Any more and I would have just been packing it in there.
I still have some work to do on tuning the new setup.
Any idea where to start on the crossover setpoint? My mains are Bose 601 Series III. I tried to find specs on those...
How do I know how much fiberfill is appropriate?
Can you buy this stuff at places like walmart, or do I need to go to an audio place?
I took the measurements, and accounting for the thickness of the MDF the amp will only take about 0.09 ft3 out of the enclosure. So 2.54 ft3 minus whatever the...
It just came in, and it's bigger than I realized. It also has a back on it, whereas the stock amp had its guts open inside the enclosure. So I might have to subtract some volume from what I initially thought the enclosure would be (2.54 ft3). I'll take measurements tonight.
Cool, I'll do that.
How do I re-tune the enclosure to 17Hz? Just going to be a matter of a differently-sized port? Or should I be asking this question in another forum?
Does this help? http://www.parts-express.com/pdf/300-804boost.pdf
Here's what it says for "stock" values: Flat to 30 Hz, -1.5 dB @ 20 Hz, -3 dB @ 13 Hz
Ordered. Nice to catch it on sale, and also nice with free shipping.
When I go to install it I'm sure I will have more questions.
Robert - Will I need to do anything with filters like you suggested for the BASH amp?
Thanks guys!
My 52" plasma currently sits on a short stand that has just enough room for the electronics. No spot for a center speaker though.
I have no plans to wall mount this TV, and I don't want to attach the center speaker to the wall like I've seen some people do.
So I need a riser that's about 7"...
So I'm finally getting surround speakers installed. I pre-wired the house for 5.1 when it was being built. Right now behind the entertainment center it's a blank plate with all the wires tucked away.
I was shopping around for wall plates and see there are a bunch of different styles. I don't...
I don't have any friends that have speakers they could loan me, so they only way I could try out speakers is just to buy them. Then if it doesn't work out I'd have to try and flip it.
Hoping somebody can suggest a speaker that tends to be more like the Bose 601 (warm, smooth sound - not harsh...
Thanks w2waytoo!
For further information, my reciever is the Yamaha RX-V2095:

I found a pdf download for the user's manual here...
Thanks for the tips, guys! I'll check out my receiver and see what it can do (it's nearly 15yrs old). Ed suggested a Bose 301 for a center. what are some other choices that might match my Bose 601s?
Right now I have an older Yamaha reciever (Dolby 5.1 I believe) and a set of Bose 601 Series III speakers. I have this setup hooked up to my TV/Xbox/Bluray but primarily use it for music.
I would like to expand to full surround sound. I'm not made of money so I'd like to use my existing...
This might not be the right place to ask, but would these speakers be an ok inexpensive match with this sub for home theater? slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1693906
Cool, I appreciate the help Robert. :)
I'll keep an eye out for a sale on that BASH amp, and if it doesn't get cheap soon I'll probably just order it anyway. :)
I'm curious; how come you changed your mind on sealing it up?
The subwoofer is identified as D112-6.5-AMIG, if that means anything to anyone.
Here's a quick pic that I forgot earlier. Hopefully you can see the general orientation of the port and other innards. The amp is hidden behind that...
