I did a little reading and came up with this quote from geologist Dave Adams: "In short, a major Yellowstone eruption is somewhat like a brontosaurus. If it sits on you, it’s going to hurt. But the chances of it sneaking up on you are fairly slim. So sleep well." The remainder of his...
On my previous receiver, a Pioneer Elite 35TX, I could rename many of the inputs - i.e, Video 1 displays Panansonic RP62, DVD/LD displays Malata DVD, etc. This was essential since I had to reassign several of the digital inputs to multiple devices of the same type (2 DVD players, 1 DVD recorder...
My father-in-law is looking to create a realistic home theater in his new house - which is still under construction. One of the things he would like to do is create a ticket window for guests. It does not need to have a working ticket dispenser (that's what his wife's job will be), but it does...

Here's a classic: Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed...

PaulB, I'm glad you liked that set --- it's the same one I just purchased! After making one last trip into Best Buy before the weekend, I was going to wait on the 51" Toshiba ($1799, but I would be getting 10% off). Instead, I noticed a 57" Toshiba on the floor. I asked about the set, and...
I really did like the Panasonic's appearance in the store, but have read a lot of scary things about the dreaded "POP" that many seem to exhibit. I'm not too excited about having to remove panels and get into the guts of the TV to fix the problem every few months. The 52" RCA looked really...
Well, I'm sort of locked into Best Buy due to 1) My new Best Buy card, and 2) The 18-month no-interest financing being offered. Their price is higher than some other places, but their 10% off coupon and $39 delivery charge make up for it. The JVC was "okay" looking - but I realize that...
I've finally decided to take the plunge on an HD widescreen RPTV. I'm armed with $1800, a 10% off coupon from Best Buy (valid this weekend), and basic information on the following five sets: Panasonic - 47" Widescreen HD-Ready Rear-Projection TV w/ DVI Input & 2-Tuner PIP (PT-47WX53) $1499...
My wife and I have just purchased a new home with a room destined to be my theater room. I currently have a 32" Sony WEGA that I plan to move downstairs to our great room, and will need to purchase a new TV to replace it. I have a $1700 budget for a new TV. I've been looking at the RCA D52W15...
I live in North Carolina, and the two movies that arrived from NetFlix this week both have return envelopes with Santa Ana addresses. You would think they'd choose a closer distribution center for my location ...

Does anyone have personal experience with the Advent AS2 tower speakers in the link below?
Advent Speakers at Costco
The specs look decent, and they appear pretty solid, but Costco is not exactly known for their consideration of in-home trials ;)
BTW, I'll be using them (if I make the...
I purchased the Bully DVD at Best Buy. It has a red banner across the top that says "THEATRICAL VERSION/ UNRATED". When I did an online search for versions, I came across the following:
Bully: Theatrical Edition (unrated)
Bully: Special Edition (unrated)
I'd like to know the difference...
I had a little more difficulty getting my unit from RefurbDepot.com. I placed my order on February 12th, and received an order confirmation number. On February 20th, I called to check the status (since it hadn't arrived). They confirmed that it had shipped out ... on February 19th. I called...
I have one still sitting unopened in a box in the guest bedroom of my house. The wife was not too happy that I ordered another receiver, and has asked me to send it back.
I'm going with Gandhi's "passive resistance" tactics ... agree to send it back, but never quite find the time to take it to...
I have been using a Sony STR-DE925 receiver in our new den (our old garage). It drives three DCM KX-series speakers in the front, two Mission 701 speakers as rears, and a Audiosource SW-15. I use it exclusively for movies (DVD, laserdisc, and SVHS sources).
I am not exactly thrilled by the...
I had the same problem. Turned out to be user error. After pressing the combination of keys you tried, press the 4 or 6 key and see if the green service menu options appear. I was waiting for something on the screen to indicate it was in the service mode (like my old Sony).
Call me jaded, but the pacing seemed very slow ... and the shocks weren't much of a shock. I think it would have been much more interesting if they had dropped the live crocodile on the contestant rather than suspending it above the chair ;)
I can see John M. cautioning the contestant to get...
I'm looking to upgrade from an older 10" Audiosource subwoofer in my den (which is a converted garage). The listening area is about 12'W x 20'D ... with the sub in the front corner. The unit will only be used for home theater - not music. The receiver is a Sony STR-DE935 with DCM KX-7 Series...
I recently purchased a Sony KV-32FS17 television as a move-in gift for myself. I am replacing a Sony KV-32FS10 that needed some servicing after the move. On the FS10, I could easily get into service mode using the standard keystrokes from the remote:
[PWR OFF] - [DISP], [5], [VOL+], [PWR ON]...
