RSP-1066 and delayed sync with digital sources (CD/DD/DTS) and slight popping noise.

Just a guess, but is there any option for "DTS Delay" or something similar on the digital inputs on the Rotel? Many processors and receivers will optionally mute the first segment of a digital stream to detect whether it's DTS or not, it's for use with DTS CDs (not DVDs) which will produce...

How come cheapo players have the most format compatibility?

Many manufacturers of cheap Chinese players don't pay license fees for the various formats they support, that's why they're so cheap. License fees are a significant percentage of the price of a DVD player.

servo 15 with no x-30 crossover: alternatives?

In that case, you could use an old reciever or stereo amp if it has some sort of variable output like pre-outs - the tape output usually stays at a fixed level and the speaker outputs would damage the sub. You might try Maplin's, they may have a passive pre-amp that could do what you want for a...

servo 15 with no x-30 crossover: alternatives?

Assuming you got the Servo-15 from Richer Sounds (since you're in the UK), they should have included the X30 in the first place... Is there any particular reason why you need to change the sub level frequently? Usually sub level is a set it and forget it thing when you've calibrated your setup.

US DVD Player on European TV - please help...

To convert component to SCART RGB you would need a converter costing several hundred dollars. Some European TVs from Toshiba through seperate component inputs, or Loewe TVs can accept component via SCART. S-Video seems like it's the best you're going to get with what you currently have.

    Buckaroo Banzai DVD audio pops

What reciever or processor do you have? I wonder if this was encoded with the latest Dolby encoder like the other films (JP3, PH) that have been experiencing audio dropouts...

Are these digital input for the future Mutichannel Digital connection? not firewire!

From the looks of it, these are 4 stereo coax inputs corresponding to L/R, Ls/Rs, Rr/Lr, C/Sub rather like the expansion inputs on a Lexicon MC-1. It's unlikely that these would be used for any high-res audio link from a DVDA or SACD player. A possible use for them would be with a computer...

Do You realy need Dolby Prologic or DPL II

I'd say PL2 should be a definite consideration if buying a reciever, it makes a lot of difference to VHS, TV and stereo DVDs. Improvements to DPL are not just the stereo surrounds, but there's improved channel seperation, improved steering and all channels are full range. PL2's adjustments...

general Linn and Ekwal, Espek questions

I asked my dealer about these the other day, as Trey has said the speaker case is the same but the drivers are different. I believe you can get the new drivers retrofitted to AV5140/5120s by Linn. To go Aktiv you can use your existing amps, you can get what amounts to an empty Linn amplifier...

    Another PLII question

    2) Many recievers don't have the processing power to decode a DD2.0 soundtrack, and then apply PL2 processing. The solution is to either use the analogue outputs on your DVD player or to set the player to output PCM in it's setup menus.

A little confused about DVD-Audio. Need stupid ?'s answered.

From looking at the image of the back panel you've posted, there's only one center (white) and one subwoofer (SW, red) underneath it, the other two are marked SB and are for the rear most surround channels. You would only use 6 of those 8 inputs since DVD-A only supports up to 5.1 channels of...

Anyone Familiar With the Avia 6 Channel Pan?

Check again using your SPL meter, the ear is less sensitive to lower frequencies and bass will sound quieter than it really is.

    MPEG Audio decoding

When DVD was launched MPEG was the surround format chosen to be used on DVDs in Europe, it can be used for up to 5.1 audio but it's more likely that it's stereo. Only a few early DVDs with MPEG soundtracks were released, Dolby Digital was far more popular and all European discs are now produced...

How often do y'all get a bad dvd?

Out of >250 discs I've only had to replace one, disc 1 of Big Trouble in Little China had a paint fleck embedded in the plastic of the DVD. When I bought VHS I had to return over half of them because of defects!

Please Help, I Am A Newbie With Good Questions...

The DD LFE should be set at 0dB and the DTS LFE set at +10dB, now for the explanation... :) On a correctly calibrated system all the speakers can produce a maximum volume of 105dB, the LFE channel is recorded a bit higher and can produce 115dB. The .1 LFE channel in DD 5.1 and DTS is encoded at...

SVS Bottoming Out And Strange Crackling On JPIII

What software version do you have in your Tag? The AV32R had a bug regarding DD soundtracks flagged as EX encoded before version 3.40.10, version 3.5 is due for release later today BTW. JP3 and Pearl Harbour* are among the first titles encoded with a flag indicating an EX track and are causing...
