It sounds like you are basing your decisions on the way equipment looks instead of the way it performs. Listen to the guys here. They know what they are talking about. Dump the Bose and get two ways for the rear. Definately get an SVS as it will kick your A$$. Do a search on SVS and you will...
Before building something that is questionable, try just buying the packages of fiberglass that are about 3 feet high when stood on end in white plastic. Stack 3 of these in the corners and listen. You will be amazed at the difference in focused bass concerning the soundstage. Jon Risch calls...
I use the white board and painted it with Behr Silver Screen. The colors straight out of the Infocus without calibration are awesome. I will calibrate this weekend.
You will be fine if you mix two brands. The extra wattage will give your mains cleaner power at higher volume than the Parasound. BTW, I run a Parasound 2200II(220 watts/channel) for my mains and a Parasound 2003A(220 watts/channel) for my center and rears. These are workhorse amps and allow...
Yor solution is much nicer that what I have. The only switching between sources you will need to do is with the Onkyo receiver. My DVD only has S-video so I have to switch both the receiver and my 4805. Have you had the 4805 long? What an awesome PJ for the price. I've had mine since...
I'm using the Infocus 4805 which is DLP. It's cheap at Costco. I paid 1000.00 with a coupon. It has a great picture and has cult status over at avsforum.com. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forum...?s=&forumid=68 I have a 100" screen and sit back about 16 feet. Works for me. Good luck on...
I believe when it switches to full screen(4:3) the sides get black bars if your PJ and DVD player are in 16:9 aspect ratio, which they should be. The true HD material will be 16:9. When I watch HD, most of the commercials are not 16:9 and the bars appear on the sides.
From a purist standpoint, it's best to run all video connections(component is the best in your situation) from the source directly to the PJ (ie. DVD player ---> PJ) This eliminates any loss of signal or noise added by not having multiple connection points. To be able to use the receivers...
I have the same PJ. I am running component cables directly from the cable box to the PJ. HD is amazing, although not true HD(only 480). My DVD player doesn't have component so I use the s-video connector. If possible, it's always best to go directly from the player to the PJ without the receiver...
If you go through all the work of a high gloss finish and take them to the college house, the first time somebody sets his beer on one and makes a ring you are going to be pissed. Use the textured paint with corners for durability. Especially in a college house. Put some handles on the sides...
I have an IB in my HT room which is 16'x26' with 8.5' ceilings. The thing is unbelievable. I use 2 Dayton DVC 15" IB drivers and the Parts Express 250 watt plate amp. I can get 10hz tones at 95 decibels with only 250 watts, amazing. You can't hear it, but you certainly can feel it. The total...
Go check out the AVSFORUM.COM They have a good DIY area concerning screens, mounts and such. Check out Monkey_man's diy mount as it may give you some ideas. I'm building his idea and it looks great for cheap. http://avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...hreadid=232749
Chris, I point out this issue since some people don't know what their building codes are. I would hate to see someone get burned (pun not intended) by their insurance co because they didn't hire licensed people. I won't take the chance.
Last night I put my hand on the ceiling during parts of Lord of the Rings and there was much vibration. I don't buy into the theory that when the drivers face each other they cancel out vibration totally. Or does the ceiling vibrate just from the bass energy? My god that's a lot of energy. We'll...
I should have been more clear. The IB is mounted as close to the center of the room as the trusses would allow. When I hang the projector it will also be close to the center of the room, thereby using one of the same trusses that the IB is mounted between. I will know this weekend if there is a...
Better make sure that what you use is up to electrical code. If your house burns down you may have issues with the insurance company. Home Depot sells grey wire specifically for this purpose and it meets code.
Hi, I recently purchased an InFocus 4805 Projector and as of now it sits on the coffee table. I have an Infinite Baffle subwoofer mounted between the rafters in the ceiling between my main speakers. It consists of two 15" drivers facing each other in a 22"x22"x17" box with a grill covering...
Brian, when I first turned on my newly built IB sub, it sounded like crap. I thought I made a mistake somewhere, but after a quick calibration my fears subsided. Without the BFD it was unlistenable in my room. Now having put base traps (bags of insulation stacked floor to ceiling) in the front...
Uhhhhh, sorry Brian. It's been a while since I messed with this. I guess I need to recreate my test cd with 1/6 octave tones. Thanks for clearing this up for me.
I guess I should have been more clear. I am doing sub work and using the Behringer Feedback Destroyer, which is a 1/3 octave parametric eq. Can't do 1/6 octave. Thank you very much for filling in the blanks on the 1/3 octave steps.
Can someone confirm the 1/3 octave tones from 5hz up to 250hz. Thanks for your help I've got: 5 6.25 8 10 12.5 16 20 25 31.5 40 50 63 Is there one or more in between 63 and 125 125 Is there one or more in between 125 and 250 250
