The images ive seen they are not using snapper cases thank god. As for upgrading no im not but thats becuase i just set up my first HT. And it kicks butt so far so no upgrading in my future.
Corey W
Well doing a little more research it looks like i have found the problem. Looks like its a known one as well. Im going to paste below for anyone else who might be having the same problem.
This is from a nice person at Audioreview.com named Jason:
It only shows up when the Component Input on the TV is being used. Doesnt matter whether the source is hooked up through my reciever or straight to the TV.
As for moving it thats kind of hard because the room isnt that big and the fact that with the TV, Stand, and Equipment it weighs close to...
Ok...Ive got a Sony Wega 36V-FS12 36" Television. Ive had it for over a year and no problems at all, its an excellent television.
This past weekend I finally set up my Home Theater system including Acoustic Research HC6 Speaker system, and Onkyo 898 Reciever along with my Pioneer DV-414 DVD...
Well for the audio problems its not only with the Onkyo 898. There is a flier that comes in the unit explaining the problem. Anyway on both of those films there are still DTS soundtracks.
I personally went with the 898 after looking around etc. Its going to get set up tommarrow along with...
Wow im glad i ordered when i did. Was able to get them down to $1075 +$32 for shipping. Mine was delivered this morning and in excellent condition.
They Double boxed it and had Air pillow type things in the box to keep it from moving all over the place. The box was huge as well so it is...
Well i can only anwser 2 of your questions since mine is not here until Monday. Component video switching is exactly what you said.
I did a lot of research when i finally decided on the 898. If you are looking for a good deal give www.jandr.com a call and talk to Todd at x1039. I got mine...
Miklsan K.....is there any word about the 898 going away? Currently i have been waiting for a week for J&R to ship mine out but they are out of stock and were supposed to get some in end of January but have not as of yet.
Any info on whether they are going out as well or not is appreciated...
Darnit..i hope the 898 hangs around for a little while since i just ordered one last week. Though it has not shipped out yet since www.jandr.com are waiting to get more in. Would be interesting to know what the new models are going to have.
Corey W
Im pretty sure i will with all the research i did before buying one as well as everyone heres help. Now i gotta clean out my basement so i can re-arrange it and set all my stuff up.
Corey W
Well I want to thank everyone here for their help. I just got off the phone with Todd (Ext. 1039) at www.jandr.com and I ordered an Onkyo 898 for $1075 + S&H. Hopefully it should be here next week then i get to set it up with my Acoustic Research HC6 system and enjoy my first system.
Thanks...
Yea i plan on that but its going to be a while before i go to HDTV. I just got my Wega a year ago and dont have a lot of room for a lot of larger components as of yet.
Corey W
Well my TV only has 1 component Input so i plan on running My DVD Player (Pioneer) and PS2 through the reciever. Im assuming with the high bandwidth Component switching I shouldnto notice any difference...and that its there for when i upgrade to HDTV and Progressive DVD etc.
Corey W
It looks like im going to end up ordering an 898 within the next few days. More than likely going to get it from www.jandr.com as a lot of people on these forums seem to like them and also that they are an Onkyo Authorized E-tailer.
Anyone who has an 898 know if it does have the RS-232 Port...
A question on the Onkyo 898 for people that have them. Does it have an RS-232 port in the unit? Because most of the pictures of the unit ive seen show it on there but the pictures on Onkyo's website and Crutchfield dont show it on there.
Thanks
Corey W
NickSP now you got me looking at the Onkyo again ;)
I didnt notice the D/A Converters on the Denon were only 96/24 instead of 192/24 that might make a difference. Looks like i will be doing some more research before i make my purchase. Thanks
Corey W
If that doesnt go through for you than you might want to look at this thread:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=33151
This is how i will be buying my 3802 when i get home this evening as my Amex Platnium has the same price protection that the Blue card offers. Just a...
Well it looks like im going with the Denon 3802. Thanks to everyone for their help. Only 2 differences i can see are the fact that the Onkyo has THX and also has Wideband Component Inputs which i dont need and if i get an HDTV in a few years It will have the HD Tuner etc built into it.
Also...
I havent called JandR as of yet. Hifi.com i get a corporate discount of 25% but the Onkyo was still around $1200 or so. Thanks so far to everyone who has reponded.
Corey W
Truthfully i dont know if im gonna notice the differnce in the way they sound since this is my first HT setup. Its going to be powering a set of Acousic Research HC6's.
Might see if there is somewhere around here I can audition them. Keep the opinions coming.
Corey W.
Well it looks like its between these 2 for my Reciever. Any opinions on one over the other. I know the Onkyo has Wideband Component Switching whereas the Denon does not and is also THX Certified.
Also if anyone have any good Online Authorized Dealers for either i would appreciate it...
Well only part of my box ive opened so far is the Sattalite's and there was no pair of white gloves in them. Its possible that they are with Subwoofer which i havent opened yet since i havent set them up but they are beautiful.
Corey W
Hey everyone....Im looking at recievers for my first HT and need opinions on which one to purchase.
Im looking at recievers in the same range as the Denon 3802. Would like to keep it around $1000 or so. Here is the equipent i will be using:
Sony Wega 36" FS12 TV
Pioneer DV-414 DVD Player...
Well looks like i was wrong there is a hole on the back of the speakers. I should have picutures up shortly though my digital camera is not the greatest.
Ok here are the pictures:

BradZ Thanks for the explanation...as you can tell im new to most of this whereas my dad has a lot better setup. Im mainly into computers etc.
I havent unwrapped any of my speakers but from looking at the back of the one the other day i dont think there are any holes in the back of the...
BradZ,
Well i dont know what you mean by ported to the rear since this is my first HT setup (Im 23). Though i have not set mine up yet, its going to be a few weeks as i still need to buy a reciever and also re-arrange my basement to set everything up. My set is still in the Box.
Corey W
Well i just opened up the box a minute ago. Not going to unpack them fully until i set them up which is still going to be a few weeks since i have to buy a reciever as well as re-arrange my basement to put everything into.
The only thing on the back of these speakers is the connectors for the...
