My turn! This is today's version of my very first HT - (Nice, too...I wish for a return to simpler days sometimes...) http://harmanaudio.com/search_browse...0235-Z&status= http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/pro...V&sid=442l685w http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...ures/539813201...
You'd have to question their fidelity, they weren't made with audible transducers in mind. Not to say they aren't good for audio, just that they were built to move a slug.
Seems there are a lot of positive reviews. Speakers are HIGHLY subjective. What I like, you may hate. And so on. Therefore, pick based on looks and features - what works for your application. But if it were my money, I'd at least give the Velo's a shot. Why? I love small 2-ways and a good...
Just saying that the receiver is too nice for those speakers. They'll work, but how long will it take before you want to upgrade, and take a hit on depreciation? If you can find them locally, buy and try. If you feel, after a good solid week, that they are less than you hoped, return them and...
Velodyne.com closeout 5.0 system for $199+, add the best $250 sub you can find, viola. http://www.velodyne.com/velodyne/pro...V&sid=768c601j http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...ures/539813201
I've just recently added outboard amps to my similarly-rated HK 325, and while not night and day, I can definitely 'tell' there's a difference, for the better. I added an HK PA2200, rated at 100 per side. I also tossed my sub amp in, just for fun, a 250w/8 AB International, and didn't gain any...
I figure I could sell off my entire HT kit, and my little vintage kit, and wind up with enough dough for a really good (used) 2.0. Say used McIntosh or an AR rig. Anyone done anything like that and REALLY regretted it? I've been listening / watching in 2.0 - 2.1 for about a month now...
Print that, make three copies, and hand one off to three HT installer / dealers in your area. Let them ask questions, answer them truthfully, listen to / write down their offers. Then come back and we'll tell you if they're full of BS or not. $10K is wide open, and you'll get dozens of...
Desperate to try HD, I grabbed the single-wire FM antenna off the back of my HT AVR. I wound up getting every single HD channel available in my area, with only one that flakes out occasionally. Granted, I live in a first-ring suburb, and the tuner in the TV (LG) seems better than the HP /...
I've noticed that I like to get a bit more slam in the 60hz area when listening to rock videos - Cream, for example - there's quite a bit of bass guitar mixed into the center. Granted, it's great with them XO'd at 80, but bring it down to 40 or 60 and a bit of the slam and thwack returns...
Go for it. Audio cables don't need to be a specific make. Charachteristics may alter the sound somewhat, but not in your application. Not likely, anyway. I've used 25 foot Composite vid cables, short Coax digital cables, both of which are supposed to be 75 ohms, also used standard audio...
I'd love to hear about this as well. If I had to stick with an HD set with only one RF input, I'd have to use that input for an antenna - leaving only S-vid for my Dish SD DVR, which is noisy, and therefore in the basement. Parts Express has the same Terk model as BB, and also a cheaper...
Yep - I made sure it wasn't the version that has only one RF input, this has two, so I can run my HD antenna and SD Dish seperately. Works great. 1080i looked better than 720p at first - 720p actually benefitted from additional sharpness. Great set.
...and the LG wins. Killed the Westy, Killed the HP, killed the Toshiba, even. Fantastic picture, aspect ratios out the wazoo, menus, remote, black levels, tuner sensitivity, everything is better than anything the others have to offer. Seperate Cable RF / Antenna RF inputs are great for me -...
Welp... Brought the HP LC3260N home, moved the Westy out of the way. The HP looks bulky, stocky by comparison, but I like the flat-black, all business charachter. It makes noise. There's a "tone" around 250hz that is very audible in a quiet room. That in itself is a dealbreaker. It goes...
Gonna stop by tonight and buy the HP...hoo boy. If it wins, it'll mean having to go with the external DVD player. Wife probably doesn't really care. Maybe I shouldn't care either, but...
Exactly what I said. Returning it was fun, as they stood there challenging me. I suppose I could have brought it to the service center, had it repaired (what's the lead time on LCD repairs? Anyone know?) and then had a $1300 set for $1050, but... So I wound up trading down for the...
Good! Bad - there's a flaw. The picture becomes highly distorted after it warms up - the on-screen menus are clear, but the actual displayed picture is highly contoured and splotchy. Back it goes. If they have another sealed one, I'd try it.
Toshiba 32HLV66 Open Box @ BB, $1050 Was looking for a keyboard for my daughter's birthday gift, and the wife said she wanted to get a smaller TV for the living room since the Sony KV27v66 27" took up too much space. So I checked out the available bargains and walked out with not only a...
"No matter where I set the level, I could not keep the readings on the same scale on the spl meter." Not uncommon. Perhaps look around for a used 31-band EQ. Music stores have them all the time, $40 or so. Use it to flatten the peaks as best you can, and maybe bring up the bottom end just a...
Buy them and form your own - no one else's will matter. I say smaller mains and dual subs because the subs have amps - increasing power down low and placing the subs properly will provide better bass. You don't want to ride the tone controls (bass knob) all day long. With one or two subs...
Put on a Telarc CD that has Also Sprach Zarathrustra, or 2001: Space Oddysey, opening track. If you can hear the opening tone distortion free, I believe it is a 30hz organ pedal. When I do that on my $230 DIY, cranked, I fear structural damage to the house before anything else.
