Yogi, If you go back to the review you mentioned, you will see that the reviewer was very positive indeed on using the R-963 as a processor/pre-amp. He had it running as a pre-amp in a more than decent setup. He had nothing negative to say about the sound of it even in such a revealing setup...
I'm asking my initial question again, hoping by this time there are finally people who have had experience with this receiver or the R-863.
My main question is how does it compare with other receivers i mentioned in my initial post.:
Denon AVR 3802
Onkyo TX-DS797
Onkyo TX-DS898...
I don't know where you can get it for that price. I live in Europe and I can get it for around $900,- .
However when i asked a question on the avsforum someone mentioned that he could get it for $1395,- (not 1350 that was my mistake).
If you follow this link...
You probably could get the Sherwood Newcastle R963 for much less than listprice. I remember someone saying they could get it for $1350,-.
Newcastle products come with a three year warranty even when bought through unauthorized resellers. (this used to be the case anyway).
If your budget is...
My information comes from the sherwood america site.
http://www.sherwoodusa.com or http://www.sherwoodamerica.com
There are new pictures up on that site since one or two weeks ago. If you open the above mentioned site you see the logo, click on it, you'll then enter the main site.
There you...
I was reading all the postings concerning the new Outlaw 950 pre/pro and 1 of the things that were mentioned was the 7.1 dsp mode from Cirrus, called CES i believe.
The reactions of the beta-testers was very positive indeed.
The reason i'm mentioning this here is the fact that the SN R-963 and...
I'm also interested in the answer to that question.
On the Sherwood website the specifications say:
In stereo mode it delivers 120 Watts per channel at 8 Ohm (20hz-20Khz) THD @ rated output 0.05%
In Surround mode(Front) 120 Watts x 3 at 8 Ohm ; 1 Khz
In Surround mode(Rear) 120 Watts x 4...
Also keep in mind the new SN R-963 and R-863.
I've had very good experiences with the Newcastles and I think they are very good with music.
Both the R-863 and R-963 have 7 channels of amplification.
The MSRP of the R-863 is $1199,- and for the R-963 it's $1999,- . Both should be available for...
A bump.
I checked out their website, http://www.sherwoodusa.com
and there was some interesting news.
There are two pdf pages with info and pics of their 2002 new products.
The new pre/pro and 7 channel amplifier, new dvd-players and a few other items.
check it out if you are interested.
I don't personally employ this function but the R-956 should be able to do this according to the manual.
The second room is not powered by the R-956 however, so you'll need a second amp.
It is however a great sounding receiver and a very good choice as long as you can get it at a good price...
The new Sherwood Newcastle R-963 should be available in the US at this time and i am looking for opinions on this receiver.
In Europe we have to wait a bit longer.
I can pre-order it for the equivalent of $900,-
At about this price I can also get the Onkyo 797 (1100,-) , Denon 3802...
