Is this important for sound quality (timbre matching, panning etc...) or more for preventing the speakers from being damaged? Or a little of both?

The salesman at my local future shop told me that for my money, I would be MUCH better off with going with a Yamaha receiver like the 5540 which goes for like $600 rather than the HK320 which goes for more than $1200. Is he nuts or are HK's infact overpriced?

My owner's manual for the JVC I-ART 27" says that a progressive scan DVD player will not work properly on the tv. Does that mean that it won't work at all, or that I just won't get the progressive scan benefits?
