no matter what media I put in there, it only outputs stereo sound! I have it hooked to my receiver with toslink cable and dumped in some DVDs and none of them register as DD or DTS audio on my receiver. am I missing something?

2 apple pies from mcdonalds :frowning:. actually, got a really STOOOPID subwoofer from futureshop (canada) at boxing day for $100cad. 8" woofer with 80watts built in amp. weighs aroun 15lb and sounds horrible... actually, I think it needs a little break in... cuz it's beginning to sound...

you can try those wierd shops that sell electronic parts. like transisters and led lights and those measuring devices of all sorts. in Toronto, there are a few and some of them have the toslink cables for around $15 for 3ft. and $20 for 6ft.

funniest thing is, if you goto any department store displaying speakers with covers open, you'll probably see like half the tweeters are punched in. yet it still plays.

wow... all this stuff is getting pretty complicated... especially that link to HTspot with the "ghosting and ringing" effects occuring on these projection TVs. To think you're paying like $5000 for a picture that's less perfect than a $1000 normal TV. It's really making me rethink this...

yah, I never really understood why denon doesn't add the front inputs. I mean, I doubt it costs them much for the added option... and chances are, they'll manage to sell enough extra machines to cover the costs.

yups... 128kbps is DEFINATELY NOT CD quality and is easily distinguishable. 160kbps, you would still be able to distinguish, but not as easily. but anything hitting 192kbps+ will require quite a bit of effort to distinguish. usually, if I want it to sound like CD quality, I do 224kbps...

I do plan to buy from authorized dealers when I finally make my decision on which components to buy. Just keeping it nice and safe for my first REAL ht system.

6channel out to 6channel in is correct. you could create an image of a CD on your harddrive... which is an exact replica of the CD itself. But that's only if you copy from cd-rom to hdd.

I just went to the HT shop today to visit and found someone testing out a bose system. I've never actually realized how tiny those speakers are!!! and still they could produce relatively loud, and kinda clear, and semi-balanced sound... I know it's nothing compared to the big floorstanders...

uh... if you're not overclocking, then stay with an ECS K7S5A and you'll save a quite a bit of money. about the radeon having better image quality, that's true... But if you don't know, ATi products are VERY VERY often plagued with driver bugs and driver updates are very rare and often useless...

hmmm... I never thought of using computer speakers as a home theatre system. what an interesting idea... :) but yah, the DTT3500 would sound MUCH better than your generic TV speakers for sure.

so what's wrong with a generic powercord anyway? from how I see it... even if you buy a $1000 powercord, the cord behind your power outlet is still that crappola stuff anyway. so technically, it shouldn't make ANY difference at all.
