Hi,
Jeff I saw you mention having both AV1 and MB1. I have the AV1 kit but haven't assembled it yet. I was just curious as to your impression of the differences between the two. Do you prefer one over the other, or are they pretty close in sound?
Thanks,
Loren Jones
Thanks guys,
I will definitely check things out based on the good advice. I looked at Digikeya and they had switches, but they didn't close until 100 deg centigrade which seems a little hot to me. I guess the amp has thermal protection on it anyway, but I wouldn't want to burn it up. The...
WBT??
Yeah, the AF provides a very nice wood shop we can use for recreation for a small fee each day. I would have to pay a lot of days worth of shop fees to afford the equipment in the shop, so it is a real nice bonus. Well, get off your computer and go enjoy your new system.
Loren
Yes, I am in Germany...USAF. Great assignment.
Yeah, a 6.1 system with Ego's would be great, and I do have an Outlaw 1050, but am only building 5 speakers now (the other two are GR Research AV1's), but I guess if no one else wants the OWII I could just save it for the possibility of use in a...
Hey Anthony,
I didn't really try that, and I just ordered 2 pair of the OWII's, so I now have an extra. So, anyone looking for an unused Hiquphon OWII just let me know.
Loren
Hi,
I am building 3 of the Ego's www.dillonacoustics.com (see Anthony Gomez post below) and Zalytron only sells the Hiquphon tweeters on matched pairs. Does anyone here want to go in together and share a pair of tweeters? That way neither of us has to pay $80 for an extra tweeter that is just...
Hi,
Power here is 220V 50Hz, but we use transformers to step the voltage down to 110...obviously the frequency doesn't change to the 60Hz of US power, but it works fine. So, a relay with a 12vdc coil and able to handle 120 volts, and say 20 amps should more than cover it. Thanks. As far as...
Hey, thanks a lot...just the info I needed. I had tried interactive buying guides and FAQ's, but just wasn't getting the info I needed.
Thanks again,
Loren Jones
Hi,
I don't think I am very well educated with regards to direct view TV choices, but I do know that I want a 32" or therabouts, and I think I will go with a 4:3 set unless someone here talks me out of it. Budget is $1000 max, and $800 is really more like it. Flat screen would be nice...
Hi,
I have a SoundCraftsMan PCR800 amp for my sub (10 year old pro sound amp, about 300 WPC at 4ohms) that I want to trigger with the remote trigger on my Outlaw 1050. I have forgotten any actual electronics knowledge I ever had. What do I need to do? Just get a relay that is switched by...
Anthony,
Awesome looking setup. I have just finished my sub (Stryke SAE 1204)and purchased my Outlaw 1050 receiver and am now looking for speakers to build. I have looked at and thought extensively about the Dillon Acoustics Ego or Metaphor, but I was concerned about not having a matching...
Thanks for all the opinions. I am sure that I will be fine with either setup. As far as using the AV1+ I do only have a receiver, but it is the Outlaw 1050 so it is able to handle 4 ohms ok.
I have heard nothing but good things about the Audax system and nothing but great things about MB1 /...
Andy,
There are a ton of kits available out there for that kind of money. I am sure you saw the Aria 5 and Wonder at Zalytron which are solid choices. You should also check out www.dillonacoustics.com The Metaphor, Ego, and Attitude should all be excellent 2 way standmount (not bookshelf)...
Thanks for both replies. I have heard nothing but good about the MB1 / GR Research AV1. It is tough not to be torn without being able to listen.
I think the tweeter is my main concern with the Audax kit.
Loren
Hi,
I am still trying to decide on a kit to build for HT. I thought I had settled on the Focal kit on Zalytron.com but then in discussions with my wife we decided it would cost too much. So, now I am searching again. I am looking mainly at the Audax HT kit or at GR-Research AV1+ LCR with...
Hi Tom,
Thanks. I think I am going to go ahead with them too. I just have to wait for my tax return to proceed...I hope all the W2's etc come soon as I have the same concern with driver supply that you do.
Thanks again,
Loren Jones
What about the Stryke Audio SAL-SB10 with the Audio File amp or the Stryke Amp 130. Should give great performance on a $250 budget plus a little more for cabinet. www.stryke.com
Hi Tom,
I saw in one of your posts that you built the Focal HT kit front LR's from Zalytron. Did you build the center kit as well? If so, how do you like it? I am thinking of building the center, and then the Aria 7 as front LR (to save some $$), and am looking for any opinions. What sort...
Hi,
If you are concerned about timber matching with the IPL acoustics kits why not use the M4 here from IPL acoustics. It uses the MDT 39 which is basicly the same as the MDT 38 but is not in the top mount housing. That system should match very well for timber. Have you heard any IPL...
Hi,
I am just getting ready to build my first set of HT speakers. I am debating between designs using large floorstanding front LR's with large center channels (like the focal center kit at www.zalytron.com or the audax HT kit center) and smaller surrounds, or building a system with 5 small...
Hi,
I just recently finished a sub project with the SAE 1204 after going through many of the same deliberations as you regarding which driver to you. I chose the 1204 for many of the same reasons you cited as advantages. I can say it is a very solidly built driver to look at, and that sound...
Yes,
I do mean the M13SG09. I am actually planning to use a madisound LEAP design for the crossover. I guess if I wanted to use the M13 I could then use the surround from the Madisound Vifa AV kits. I guess what I am looking for is someone who has experience with both of those woofers to...
Hi,
I am just getting ready to enter the world of HT. I have a sub and DVD player, and my receiver choice is made (Outlaw 1050), so now I am working on the main, center, and surround speakers. My priorities for this project are low cost and small size (SAF on both counts), and I will be...
