I have a SVS 25-31PCi now, and would like some thoughts on possible upgrade options. How much of an upgrade would each of the following be -
PB-2000/PC-2000 $800
HSU VTF3-MK5 $950 (with shipping + tax)
Reaction Audio Echo 15 $1000
PSA V1500...
My ideal Atmos setup (on a realistic budget) - the Denon receiver (of course :D), fullset of Atmos speakers with upward firing modules from Klipsch, 15" ported sub from PSA/SVS/RA. And a bunch of demo discs from Dolby as well as Atmos versions of my current movies, or perhaps DSU is going to be...

That's quite a thread bump - 3 years !!
I know quite a few single guys who bought Bose, even though it was an expensive buy. There are people who just don't want to do any research and will happily base their decisions on marketing. Actually I think that's...
One of the optical inputs on my Panasonic XR50 broke when I was taking the cord out. Is there any way to fix it? I don't want to have it repaired or have to send it out because it'd cost too much, and the Panny won't let me assign audio inputs independent of video, or share them.
I think I have either Avia or DVD essentials somewhere. Last time I had used it to calibrate my HT with an analog spl meter but the sub didn't need much calibration then :) I think I'm going to invite the neighbors over for a LOTR or Matrix party and thus my preemptive strike will prevent any...
My SVS 25-31PCi sub is already on its way and should be here next week, and I can't wait! I have a few questions now that I'm about to be part of the SVS family. I will be running it from a Panasonic SA-XR50 receiver. - what precautions do I need to take to make sure the sub does not...
I now have an xbox, dvd player, Comcast digital cable box as well as replay tv and possibly pc to hook up to my tv and receiver. I have a question about the Pelican box which seems like the best option on a budget. I have seen some contradictory information regarding the Pro model (PL-960)...
I guess this is a good thread to ask - I am the target market for the PB-10 :) since I'm looking for a $400 sub. Tom/Edward, how would it compare to this DIY sub kit with a Shiva driver - EZTube Sub kit The specs are listed as -
To me they appear close enough that SPL may not be...
I need to help a friend setup a complete HT with a max budget of $1000, preferably much less than that. He was going to get a Bose Lifestyle but luckily for him I talked him out of it :D I was also pleasantly surprised when he said he could go upto $1k as that opens up some real...
Hugh, I got it from CircuitCity only to try it out. I was planning on upgrading my receiver and a friend needed a DD receiver, so I sold him mine, and I couldn't bear to be without one for a week :) And I wanted to see how it would sound in my home with my speakers. So far I have used it...
My speakers are Michaura M55's which I got from ubid. They were avaialble for a short time only and I found oout through the buzz on audioasylum. They were made by Axiom for an OEM and are comparable to the M22ti. I love them! The sub is a Sony WM40 but I'll be upgrading to a svs or DIY soon.
Hugh, the XR50 is $225 at etronics.com ($240 shipped). Even though JR lists it at $299, if you call them they offer it shipped for $250. From what I've read the only significant addition to the XR70 is HDMI and DPL IIx. Sonically it should sound similar to the XR50. (there is some talk amongs...
I didn't realize the retail cost was going to be >$400 !! Assumed that '$400 price class' meant $400, not ~$400. This means if I do decide to get one I better preorder.
I am going to hazard an explanation based on my limited knowledge of HT, but I may be wrong :) Let us assume for a moment that the input signal is digital (coax/optical from a cd/dvd player). Traditional receivers or dedicated amps have class A/AB amplifier sections. These amps amplify the...
I did consider a Rava but decided against it because the consensus seems to be that a sealed sub is not the best for HT. I have nothing against a cylinder design (its a factor for some). As for the cost, the Ezsub kit + rhythmik audio plate amp = $435 incl shipping. I think shipping for...

I've heard that caskets make *excellent* cabinets for speakers. Something to do with reaching across dimensions and into alternate universes. Truly an out of this world sound :D
I understand the point about the power supply and available output. But assuming I listen at well below reference, say 50% of the subs capabilities, will it still be audible? I thought all DD/DTS receivers already had a low pass filter built into the LFE output. So why should that channel...
I think I will be ordering the kit very soon. I spoke to Bob from CSS and he said the sub should sound the same powered with a plate amp or my old receiver. The amp box version of the kit also requires some cutting and construction so that swayed my decision. I just keep thinking 'what if'...
Axiom M22Ti - $400 or buy factory seconds for $360, they will have minor cosmetic blemishes. From all the reviews I've read this speaker is hard to beat under $1k. Paradigm Mini Monitors or Monitor series (not sure about current pricing on these) are also worth considering.
Thanks, thats a relief !! So right now th eonly true HD source is KQED and thats only for a couple hours each day. How about shows like Alias, CSI etc which are advertised as HDTV. I'm hoping they are not upscaled 4:3. Another concern is I now have to worry about burn in on these...
I just bought a Toshiba 51H93. I am using it with a Comcast hdtv cable box (Motorola DCT 5100) connected to its component inputs, and I'm having a few problems with hdtv content- Most HDTV channels (ABC, ESPNHD, NBC) display with black bars on the left and right. The black bars are not as big...
Thanks for the link, Mark! That kit looks good. I have an old Aiwa POS receiver lying around - its 5ch x 100w I think. Will it be enough to power the sub, or should I get a 250w plate amp?
I am in the market for a 'better class of sub'. My price range is around $350. At that price a new SVS is out of the question. I have read many threads about how a DIY is much cheaper and sounds as good or better than commercial offerings. However building one qould require woodworking tools...
I have read those same threads and the claim for the better sound quality of the XR10 was based on the supposedly better parts and construction, as well as a better power supply and volume control mechanism. Each succesive Panny has kept on adding features and the newer models also inlcude...
