    Using pre/pro dac's

I'm using my Tag AV32R as my DAC for all my external sources, from HTPC to CD player, whenever possible. Sounds great to me.

    New Denon DVD5900

6 12bit/216MHz video DACs?! Ouch! It wasn't that long ago that 10bit/27MHz DACs were standard and 12bit/54MHz DACs were the best. Now this thing's 4X as fast! Mind boggling...

Using PC as a HT receiver

A HTPC can be great as a media player, but personally I feel its not matured enough to be a full fledged prepro, much less a receiver. In fact, it will never be able to function as a receiver since it has no amplification. Even functioning as a prepro is hard if you're talking about audio/video...

    7.1 Preamp + 7 Channel Amp for Approx. $1600

I think with only $1500-1700, receivers are youe best bet. You can't really get separates at that price, except perhaps the Outlaw 950 and a really cheap 5 channel amp.

    Rotel 1095, Sherbourn 5/5210 or B&K 7250

I know that ATI has a hand in the Outlaws, but I wasn't aware that it does the Sherbournes too?

    Rotel 1095, Sherbourn 5/5210 or B&K 7250

Rotel, but I'm biased, since I own the RMB-1095, and its sweet :) The fact that B&W used to pair up their speakers with Rotel says something about their "synergy" too :)

Acoustic-Visions' Kilimanjaro vs Paradigm SERVO-15 - HELP PLEASE, new

I've no experience with the Kilimanjaro, but as a Servo-15 owner, I'd say you can't go wrong with it. Killer sub.

Dynaudio Audience 82: Need some advice

The Contour series is way better than the Audience series, they're not even close, so just because the Contour series is good doesn't mean the Audience series is too :) That being said, the Audience 82 is still pretty good. However, I would take a PSB Stratus Silveri or Goldi over it. Also...

What's the best 'active servo' sub on the market for the money?

Thanks Bruce, that was really enlightening...you mention the "positional" servo system, but how does the system know where the cone is in the first place? How is the cone position fed back to the system? What mechanism is it using? Also, do you, or does anyone know what sort of Servo system...

What's the best 'active servo' sub on the market for the money?

Intriguing discussion here :) So is the limiter actually built into the Servo system? Do Velodyne and Paradigm implement Servo systems the same way that Bruce described it, i.e. with an accelerometer that provides feedback to the amp? What about Yamaha? Does Servo in subwoofer terms only mean...

Frequency waterfall charts of a few familiar favourites

I'm surprised nobody mentioned "The Haunting"...well besides having Catherine Zeta Jones as eye candy, its not a very good show, but its bass levels are up there with the best I think.

    amp recommendation

I'm not sure how much it costs, but the Rotel RB-1090 sounds like a solid choice for a relatively low cost but high performing 2 channel amp with a high power rating(2x380W@8ohm)

looking for a good cable to hook a pre amp to a amp

I personally use Catcable's SilverCats, but given a choice now, I think I'd just go with regular RG59 or RG6 Belden/Canare coaxial cables with 75ohm Canare RCA connectors. They're cheaper, they're broadcast quality, and they're good enough :)

What kind of speaker wires do you use ?

You're right, but there are so many happy people in this board with the same speaker cable as me, so at least I'm not alone :)

What kind of speaker wires do you use ?

I guess you could say I'm lazy :) Well, if I did have a couple hundred feet of plenum Cat5 cables lying around that might help the motivation bit, but I don't :) Anyway, I guess I'm not too passionate about upgrading the cables. Its in the "nice to have" list rather than the "must have"...

What kind of speaker wires do you use ?

Well I've read some articles on some DIY designs like the UBYTE-2 and FFRC, which are speaker wire based on normal coaxial cable and Cat-5 cable, and they make comparisons to the Kimber 4TC, which is one of the entry level boutique cables. I just haven't seen any motivation to upgrade from my...

What kind of speaker wires do you use ?

I'm using generic 12AWG OFC speaker cable too(spade/banana clip terminated), except I biwire them to look more "audiophile", haha. Anyone tried braided Cat-5 cables? :)

    Pop-up killer

Mozilla Firebird 0.6 just came out a day or 2 ago, and that's what I'd recommend. Its in the form of a zip file, and all you need to do is extract it to a folder of your choice. No messy installations to handle, just extract it, run it, and it will automatically create a profile folder for...

    Outlaw 755 vs. Rotel 1095?

Since Outlaw is sold only through internet direct, it would be hard to find a person with both amps. I have the Rotel myself, and from what I've read 2 other very comparable amps that you might wanna consider are the Parasound HCA-2205AT and the Sherbourn 5/1500A.

    Pop-up killer

Jed M, if you like Mozilla, you should try Mozilla Firebird. What version of Mozilla are you on? I would suggest waiting for Mozilla Firebird 0.6 to be out, then grab it and try. The Mozilla Suite will be broken up into individual components very soon, and come Mozilla 1.5, Firebird will be the...
