I suspect the Brystons and Anthems will sound similar. Perhaps Bryston will have more refined sound. Bel Canto will probably be the most revealing one but may expose the flaws of my Paradigms. I wish I can try out all of them.
I haven't tried other amps yet. I'm waiting for Kalman Rubinson's review of the new Bel Canto amps. He told me he has only tried it with the Revel Studios and love it. I'm waiting for him to try it out with his Paradigms. I asked for an in home audition of the Brystons but I might not be...
Okay one last time. I got my 49tx before the AVM20 came out. There are many of us who don't know we need more until later. I bought the 49tx receiver and was and still am very happy with it. I have not added an amp yet. But I hope so in the future because I miss the Anthem already :) Did I buy...
Look I'm not gonna get into this argument here. If anyone thinks they can get a Denon 3802 plus an amp (for the same price or cheaper than the 49tx or 5803)and sound better than than a 49tx or 5803 than good for you and go for it. But there is more to a receiver than an amp section. The 49tx and...
I wasn't thinking of actually posting a review since I'm quite new to all this myself but there were some requests so I figure I'll just pop in and share some of my experiences. Here's my setup. Paradigm Studios all around Studio 60s V.1 (fronts CC450 Studio ADPs Servo 15 Studio 20s V.2...
I'm a believer in THX. But of course there are good THX certified products and not as good THX certified products. But as of right now, all THX Ultra 2 certified products are great and have features that you definitely want. When it comes to receivers/processors there are certain...
The only think I'm worried about is that pairing a really nice amp with a budget receiver although theoreticaly suppose to work wonders really doesn't. Some people do swear by it though. There's really a lot more to a receiver than the amp section. I mean the quality of the pre/pro section alone...
I had the same old problem. Except my old DVD player wouldn't even play DTS material. Although I had other more important reasons to upgrade not having DTS was one of them. All the reviews of discs that has both AC3 and DTS says DTS is slightly better. And I believe they're right. The problem is...
Hi Daniel. I have the 49tx and a aftermarket powercord. Don't worry about the powercord being 2prong or 3pronged. It's a standard IEC outlet which means practically everything will work. And the powercord makes a difference on the 49tx IMO. However my powercord still doesn't fit the 49tx all...

Honestly if your interest is HT you shouldn't go cheap on the processing. Ya amps are important but processing is HUGE for HT. Better off getting a flagship receiver or processor. Since assuming you have capable amps and like the way it sounds look into the processor market. YOu wont' be...
SVCD is rarely supported. JVC does seem to be the few brands that support it. If SVCD is important to you consider getting one solely for that purpose. The JVC's are fine but they don't necessarily offer the best DVD performance for the money. There are always tradeoffs. I think it's a good buy...
The 49Tx is a HUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE improvement over any yesterday's receiver. The 3802 can't even compete. Not even if you add an amp. Realistically the 3802 just doesn't have the chips that the 49tx does. The 49tx is great. With all the Anthem AVM20 talk I began to doubt the capabilities of the...
First of all. The unit does tend to need a while for breakin but in. Got some questions. Did you use the same cables? Did you connect the analog cables to the 2ch part of the 555ES and not the multichannel part of the 555ES? I would suggest you play other stuff as well. And this is...
I doubt you'll hear much difference. Perhaps that is why high end cable companies almost never make optical cables. I genearlly avoid optical cables. You'll be better off with a coaxial cable if you can. You can get decent coaxial cables for a lot less than a decent optical cable. And you can...
Yes got with the 7800 or 7900 or whatever. I recently got 2 and love it. I wish to get another one to put on my rig although I don't have much use for it there.
So for the consumer who doesn't want to understand the specifics :) would you actually buy tube amps to power your HT? Who actually has tube amps powering their HT?
I just got the Hitachi player based due to the recommendations from the sales guy (and ya I do trust him cause I don't believe he'll bullshits me and he unlike the other sales guy I've dealt with was honest enough to say that the Pioneer Elite player was crap (had cromma bug and all). Anyhow I...
Well sometimes it seems the tv looks bad :) But I'm really not concerned about TV quality. I don't really sit down and watch tv on this rig. So it's mainly just movies.
I was thinking of thinking of using this monitor for gaming too but then I don't know if I want to connect the newer systems...
Well I don't know if this is a valid excuse but maybe it's cause most of the guys here never really looked into a $800 TV before so they really don't know too much about it. Rather than give you a worthless answer they chose to give you no answer at all. To answer your question I have always...
I don't believe THX is a gimmick. I love Ultra 2 and I use that for all movie playback. Do other formats sound better? Probably for some movies you're better off without THX and going 5.1. But I'm not one to mess around before I watch a movie so I just leave it at Ultra 2 and if I am not happy...
Perhaps that's what my sales guy was talking about when he said non HD tv looks like crap on the progressive scan except for Sony's. I can go satellite but I don't see this happening anytime soon. But I don't watch tv too much anyways. Perhaps it's because cable on my Elite looks pretty bad...
Ya that's what I'm thinking. I went to a store today that sells Toshiba and Sony, and Hitachi as well as Pioneer and Pioneer Elite recommended me to go with a Sony (wait for the new one to come out) cause it will give me better performance with cable tv. He feels that the three brands are all...
Ideally you should not turn volume up and down throughout the viewing of the movie. Although I sometimes do that because gun scenes for example may be a bit too much for my ears to handle sometimes. But it is the way the movie is suppose to be played. Just like in a theater sudden gun fires...
Since I've been looking at adding an amp to my sound system I figure I might consider spending the money on a new tv. Something that I want to do but there's something holding me back. I have an old Pioneer Elite SD-P5193. It's 5 years old now. It was one of the best in its time and it's...
