Since you mentioned "the appropriate flag", I wanted to ask a basic question - does this flag exist on video DVDs and BD discs? In other words, if I put a 4:3 movie in a PS3 to play on my 16:9 TV (through HDMI), will it automatically know to display it as 4:3 video with bars on the side? And...
I just briefly explained the problems with my TV in this thread: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=240535 Essentially, after I eliminated the cable box (by swapping it out for another one) and the cable (by using a different HDMI cable) as the problems, I had Best Buy come to...
I just got a new TV through Best Buy's plan. I bought the original TV in February 2005 and it started having troubles that I discussed in another thread here. After the third visit without being able to fix the problem, they gave me the OK to get a new TV. Since they don't carry the same model...
I recently went through something like this. One day, all of a sudden I had problems with my cable. Basically, everything that was dark colored was now green and everything else was a light purple. After experimenting, I found out it was only my cable seeing this problem. I tried connecting it...
In my opinion, TVs are one of the few things that are worth paying for the extended warranty on. I bought a TV back in 1996 and got the warranty. I had to return it within the first 30 days because of a loud, electrical buzzing noise. That would have been covered by the store's policy, but after...
I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD. I think there's an option to turn the sound off for HDMI but I didn't bother since I have the TV speakers off, so it doesn't really matter if the audio is carried to it or not.
OK - I found the spec for this TV (http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/img/262190) and it definitely has 1080p inputs, so that clears that issue for me. I've had another issue with this TV (in another thread) but it looks like that has been cleared up, so I will go ahead and have this one delivered to me.
I hate to keep replying to my own thread (at least I'm not just "bumping" it!), but I think my problem is solved. I just looked at the TV's specs again for the first time since discovering this issue (http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/img/262190) and noticed on the second page in the right column...
The problem is that if the discretes don't work, with the design of the TV, I don't think any macro will do what I want. If I bring up the input selection box, there's no way for the macro to know what input I'm currently using, so I can't know that, to get to the DVD player, I always go "right...
Thanks for the help - I don't have a Pronto remote, so I'd need to get one. My problem is that I don't want this TV unless I'm sure that it has the discrete codes necessary to access the inputs directly. I'm scheduled to have it delivered on Sunday, but I'm going to call up and delay the...
OK - I've now spent a LOT of time on the phone with various people at Mitsubishi and other places - they've assured me on the phone that there are discrete remote codes that can be used to switch directly between video modes, but they said I needed to speak to a technician to get them. They gave...
Sorry for my emotional title, but I bought one of the new Mitsubishi WD-57731 DLP TVs last night after reading a nice review of one and looking at it myself. However, today, after re-reading the review, something concerned me - it doesn't feature direct input access. When I read it, I figured...
I'm pretty sure you can do that unless there's something odd about the player. I've never hooked up a DVD player that way, but my cable box is connected to my TV via HDMI and to my receiver through optical and it works just fine.
I was just at a store looking at a Mitsubishi WD-57731 and was told that it definitely has 1080p inputs - can anyone confirm that? I might just buy that one...
You're right - I hadn't thought of that... I might in the future have another HDMI video source which would require a switcher even if I bought a new receiver now. I think that's the way to go - thanks!
My TV has only one HDMI input which is fine for now since the only thing I have which can connect via HDMI is my digital cable. However, once the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray thing plays itself out, I'll be buying a new player and will want to hook it up via HDMI as well. I see two options - first, I can...
Now that you mention it, one of the last things I did before I went to bed last night was change the picture setting - the default was "Sports" mode, and I changed that to "Movie" and it did look better. I don't know if that affected other settings (such as sharpness) but I'll take a better look...
I can see pixels - if there is a section of screen where the color changes from dark to light, it often looks like bands of color with clear lines between them. Everything looks very computer image-like - not entirely natural. I did go in and turn the sharpness all the way down.
I recently got a 52" Toshiba DLP and it looks great when showing HDTV, but looks terrible showing anything else, including DVDs. Now, granted, the room I have it in right now is small (I'm having work done on the living room) and I measured it to be 8 feet, 8 inches from where my head is to the...
I saw it, but they've had "extended" review segments before - Attack of the Clones had one, for example. I didn't time it or anything to compare, but I doubt it was any longer than that one...
A friend of mine was an extra in A Simple Plan, filmed in Delano, MN, as Chet pointed out.
I haven't personally been in a movie, but I did watch them film a scene in front of Northrup Auditorium on the U of Minnesota campus for With Honors (terrible movie, by the way). As we were leaving, we...
I'm just curious if anyone has some good examples of movies whose names were changed for other markets - I remember seeing something on TV once where they went over some examples, and they ranged from logical (where they actually improved the title - one example was "Dangerous Minds" becoming...
To defend Braveheart a bit, what we know of William Wallace is very limited and much of it may be more legend than reality, so any movie about his life would have to take many liberties. However, they did reorder things quite a bit, make a very important bridge disappear, and have him "involved"...
Keep in mind that if someone gives a movie 4 stars, or 10/10 on a ratings scale, he/she isn't necessarily saying that the movie is perfect. If you decide you will never give out a ten, then you've taken a limited rating system (only 11 possible ratings, 0-10) and limited it even more. If I rate...
