I've been having problems with several Anchor Bay DVD titles. My disc of FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN played fine several months ago, but now it won't play at all (and I've tried it on three different players). My disc of THE WITCHES locks up after Chapter 5. If anyone has these discs, please...
I know I read somewhere that Paramount was letting buyers vote for their most favorite cult titles, and these were on it. I wish I could find that information. Anyone know about this?
I believe Universal owns the following Hammer films. Anyone know when they're coming to DVD?
BRIDES OF DRACULA
CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF
NIGHT CREATURES
EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (62)
NIGHTMARE
PARANOIC
What about all the 50s stuff and ISLAND OF TERROR? Next Halloween perhaps?
I just saw on a post that Paramount had a poll for most wanted cult films (was this on Mobius?) and FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL & CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER were both on it. I guess this would mean release next year.
Since it's Halloween time, I'd like to see people's top ten horror films that are not yet out on DVD. Here's mine (but I'm cheating!). I'm not including stuff I think will come out.
1. All the rest of the Christopher Lee/Hammer Dracula films (HORROR OF DRACULA, DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE...
Paramount is sitting on a bunch of the Amicus films: THE SKULL, THE PSYCHOPATH, DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, TALES THAT WITNESS MADNESS (almost Amicus), THE DEADLY BEES.
Paramount is releasing SECONDS and PROPHECY. Personally I think the later film sucks, and surely the Hammer films have a much wide appeal. I just don't get it.
Well it seems that they have little interest in releasing their Hammer films, so why not license them to Anchor Bay for the full works, special edition and all? I think I'll hold off on buying the Japanese laserdisc of Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell until I here back from them about the...
I have a chance to buy a Japanese laserdisc of Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (over $100). Should I wait for Paramount to give in to a DVD or pick it up?
Maybe not really scary, but good horror DVDs:
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (original: Elite)
SUSPIRIA
ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES/RISES AGAIN
REANIMATOR
SCARS OF DRACULA
TOWER OF EVIL
CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD
THE BEYOND
COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE
BLACK SUNDAY
I don't understand why these companies just don't licence the Hammer films to Anchor Bay instead of letting them collect dust on the shelves. If Paramount has no intention of doing FRANKENSTEIN and the Monster From Hell and CAPTAIN KRONOS: Vampire Hunter, then they should make a deal with Anchor...
