For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, here is an excerpt from a blog I did two years ago on this subject... "...did you know there was a sequel made to the film that put Judy Garland on the map? "Journey Back To Oz", a production of the legendary Filmation animated...
I don't know whether or not this belongs in an animated form, but it is worth mentioning here...most of you know the fate of the Filmation animated library over the years and how the successive owners have treated it. Classic Media is now the owner of this library, and part of it is the highly...
Well, since no one, especially reviewer Rob, will tell me, I had to use logic and research and updated the Wikipedia entry on this show and hopefully the issue of rights will be settled for all of you. If I'm wrong, let me know.
Maybe Robert Harris meant the actual roadshow version as in including the original Todd AO credits since all 70MM Todd AO prints of Todd AO films have this credit.
March 2010 has almost come and gone...and, unfortunately, no restored "Alamo". Could this have something to do with the vicarious state of MGM, or was certainly not enough money to rescue this film from oblivion? One thing's for sure...the only extant version of the roadshow cut remains only...
I think there is one factor in the delay of The FBI. Remember, you have two entities involved in this one, QM Productions and WBTV. The Martin estate has some claim to this, but you also have to remember that CBS bought a majority of the QM library, so obviously issues would have to be cleared...
Well, considering the state MGM/UA is in right now, it is quite possible the remaining 1.3 million will be raised by someone...maybe Scorcese's FilmFoundation, or UA majority holder Tom Cruise. But time is of the essence. By the end of this year, the roadshow Alamo could go the way of the...
Well, I don't think we should take Lionsgate to task on this one. It's actually NBC Universal--Lionsgate just holds the license from ImaVision, and in turn from NBC Universal. A disclaimer on the liner notes says that every effort was made to include what was available to be seen on the DVDs...
I personally wrote the Wikipedia section in question, which no doubt will be corrected by me at some point this week to make it make a little more sense. But after reading all of the posts on this film, it is safe to say that WB is to be commended for at least restoring SOME version of the...
Seamless branching on "Legend" for Blu-Ray might be impossible, simply because the two versions have two different scores (Goldsmith and TD), and therefore, two differently mixed soundtracks. Probably the best thing here for the sake of quality is to make it a 2 disc release, with one version...
Isn't "Mothers-In-Law" public domain? I thought MGM (UA's sister company) had control of this...did they lose it or something? Oh, and the successor-in-interest is called Desilu, Too (honest, that's the company's name!)
Frankly I would not mind having the original versions on blu-ray at all, just as long as they are done right and restored at least to a level of hi-def. Sure, Lucas thinks the current SEs are the definitive and to-canon editions, but let's not pick on George and all the folks that worked hard...
I almost bought the most recent issue of the Alien DVD with the intended isolated score, but since I now have the Intrada CD issue of this same intended score...but I would not mind a blu ray containing this isolated score at all, warts and all. I don't care if it doesn't match the film, but...
Just so you'll know, guys...when the Sci-Fi Channel ran this series in the 1990s, WorldVision Enterprises (the then-owners of the series) created a brand-new opening and closing titles sequence using CGI animation, done as if the series had continued on through the 1990s, plus a new synth-pop...
I think I should remind you all that "Prince & The Pauper" was originally released as a short preceding "The Rescuers Down Under", and in between these two elements was an animated countdown towards the feature presentation. This interstitial has yet to be released on video in any form. So, in a...
Hmmm...interesting, Robert. Considering UA logos up until at least the 1960s were scarcely used at all..I could be wrong. Of course, today, in 2009, we'd see the MGM logo followed by the new UA logo as seen in "Valkyrie" (minus the MGM byline, of course).
To toy with this even further...TCM once aired "On The Waterfront" at a 1.85:1 ratio, but Columbia's recent DVD release made it clear that it was shot and intended for 1.33:1 Academy ratio. Count me as one person who won't be buying the new "Gulliver's Travels" blu ray issue...
Robert, then who does? Well, it's kind of confusing since here in the U.S. the film is in the public domain anyway, and the elements should be with Paramount, or rather Republic, since in a sense it is part of the Republic holdings, and Lionsgate owns the home video rights to the Republic...
Well, to whoever asked the question about "Supeman" and "Superman II" (and I do communicate with him once in a while as I did yesterday after the chat)...the reason he asked this question (and this is what I got from him personally...funny, we share the same first initials) is because there was...
This is a public response to Robert Harris. I can tell you that Robert and I have spoken privately via E-mail and IM, and on this occasion I want to make this conversation public as well. I wholeheartedly applaud Robert's efforts to revive this film. I can tell you that I did happen to catch...
I did do a personal DVD+R recording of the original uncut version of "DL" that ran a couple of years back on TCM, and it also has the overture and exit music. There was no intermission, and I do not recall the film ever having that intermission. I also do not know whether or not it was part of...
I am shocked and surprised that THE F.B.I. was not discussed. Is this an issue between WB and CBS/Paramount? I ask this because CBS now owns rights to a majority of the Quinn Martin library.
Just to let you know from my end...on my web site yesterday I did do an article on "Mad World". I mentioned Robert Harris in my original piece (remembering an earlier Internet article about Harris and "Mad World"...somewhere I'll try and find it on Archive.org). I took the piece down at his...
I too signed the petition. But if all else fails, may I suggest this to MGM/Fox...since the current extended cut exists on digital video anyway, wouldn't it be wise to just include that version (even if isn't anamorphically enhanced) in addition to the restored General Release Version (with the...
Hey! I can tell all of you that after 3 1/2 months struggling to get replacement discs, I finally got them a couple of weeks ago. Started with many phone call attempts in late Dec./early Jan., then E-mails to whatever WB home video suggested, then I got an E-mail from a rep in Feb., and then...
I myself am having a bad experience with the replacement disc issue...I was on the phone for nearly 27 minutes today, 15 of them just waiting for an operator, then when she finally did turn up, I had a chance to ask for the replacement discs, only to have me on hold yet again for another 12...
