Paul, I have a Sony RPTV also, but with a Toshiba progressive scan DVD player. When I play the output in progressive mode, it shows "DTV format 480p" and in interlaced mode it shows "DTV format 480i". So I am pretty sure that your DVD player is still in interlaced mode. Look for a switch...

Try turning your volume down to zero. My kids keep playing with the volume knob and it goes into protect mode when the knob is turned to the max vol.
