I actually had a DVD player chew up a disc once. No kidding. But on the lighter side some of these arguments are very similar to: 1) I had a friend whose car broke down. So I refuse to buy a car. 2) My sister's TV set went on the fritz. So I refuse to buy a TV. And the list goes on...
That's probably because one doesn't have to look very long and hard to find a poorly mastered DVD. I won't deny the fact that there are a lot of good looking DVDs to be had. Heck, I probably own most of the discs the majority of videophiles consider to be of reference quality. I can still watch...
Funny, but I always thought encoding film to video at low bitrates, tossing in a heaping helping of EE, and cranking the filtering up is also butchery of the original composition. Like I said, we have different priorities. To each his own. --Jerome
