Say it ain't so, snapperhead. This DVD was supposed to be released next week, but I got a message from DDD saying it was not going to be shipped because the product had been canceled? What gives?
Take this for what it's worth ... Spoke recently with a friend of mine who has no reason to make things up. Anyway, he was in first class from Austin to LAX a few weeks ago sitting behind Luke Wilson and Wes Anderson. He asked what they were up to, and they said they were going to work on the...
As I haven't seen a review, and I was looking for one until I received my copy from DDD yesterday, I'll offer a quick look at the picture quality. (I have a 65-inch mitsubishi, prog. scan Toshiba ...) In any case, I was impressed with the picture quality for the age of the film, especially...
DDD has dropped the price to $15.78. It seems it pays to wait a week or so after a title is released as for several big movies I have noticed this trend of a $5 to $7 price drop shortly after release. Heck of a deal at this price.
The commentaries on LOTR are very good -- especially the cast commentary and the artist/designer commentary. Hands-down best commentary I have ever heard, however, is the Spinal Tap "in character" commentary. I wish more classic comedy movies would do this sort of thing.
La Grande Vadrouille Aka: Don't Look Now - We're Being Shot at; Don't Look Now, We've Been Shot at; The Big Runaround Perhaps the most widely publicly acclaimed movie ever by French audiences. It certainly belongs on your list.
What is the purpose, then, of re-releasing this disc? I was probably going to buy it if it came with a PJ commentary, but there's no way I buy a full-frame version. I just can't believe PJ would go for that. He is a geek's geek. What gives?
If I'm not sure I want to buy a film ... whether or not it has a commentary often will swing the decision in favor of buying or not buying. A commentary just adds so much value, in my opinion. The best commentaries are ones where the actors remain in character, a la Spinal Tap, but a thoughtful...
This is a classic French was movie recently made available in Region 2, and I believe it was an anamorphic transfer of the original 2.35-to-1 print. I saw this film as a kid when I lived in Europe for a couple of years and would love to own a Region 1 version of the DVD.
Anyone know anything...
I found it in Houston on Friday evening. It was tucked away discreetly in the "DVDs for sale" section. There were half a dozen copies left. If anyone would like to know the location, you are welcome to e-mail me.
