It certainly helps that Cameron supervised the conversion. Many may not realize this, but there were a lot of scenes in "Avatar" that were converted as well.
Great review Neil. I totally agree with your assessment of the A/V quality of the discs. Paramount/Cameron hit the ball out of the park on this one. Fans of the film will be extremely impressed.
I'm with Robert on this one...I enjoyed it much more than Cohen's previous efforts and it has nothing to do with the $2 million in currency that was sent my way as well. One would think they were trying to pay us off for positive reviews!
Furthermore, not all Blu-ray players are equal. Some corrupt the output data and skew the color space. Granted, most won't be able to see this without using test equipment, but it happens nonetheless.
I can count on one hand the number of feature films I've streamed, and all of them have been for review purposes to test out a piece of equipment. I like physical media, but can see how people are switching to streaming. Most consumers could care less about the A/V quality nad they're lazy, so...
Gary, I remember reading that somewhere as well. I'll keep a look out to see if I see anything amusing. Then again, if they redid all of the effects, maybe these were redone too???
The sampler disc didn't have any audio problems. If anyone has a link to direct time stamps of the audio issues, I'll confirm them and contact Paramount personally with their VP of publicity.
As I've watched more and more episodes, this has become apparent to me as well. Switching to the Stereo track fixes the "weird" audio issues though.
This is one of those examples that kills anyone who reviews a TV set. There just isn't enough time to watch every episode in its entirety before...
I agree that Season 7 went downhill fast, but the finale was awesome. I think all of the creative energy was going into DS9, which ultimately was probably the best Star Trek series of the entire franchise (IMHO).
The DTS-HD MA 7.1 track can sound funky at times, but for the most part it's pretty good IMHO. Also, the Dolby Digital stereo track is showing up as a French track on my Oppo BDP-95 (Disc 2). I need to check if this is the case with every disc or not.
