    Denon DVD-3910. Thoughts?

Thanks so much for the reply. What I am noticing with t my ucrrent setup is that in "general" DVD-A has about 5 dB more bottom than SACD. Hence my desire to set bass levels separately. Could be my 563A player, but maybe not. There is no way to set anything for the analog inputs of my...

    Denon DVD-3910. Thoughts?

I also am thinking about upgrading tot a 3910. But have a question! My current setup has an older preproc that does fine, but requires that DVD-A and SACD comes in analog. DVD-A from my current player sounds just great whether 2 channel or multi channel. But SACD has no bass that is...

Brian, My main test for SACD is the Sony Pink Floy "Money" sampler though I also use Bob Dylan "Blood on the Tracks" and a couple of SACD 2 CHannel only Miles Davis and older jazz discs. Experience is the same with all - though some worse than others, none "right". If I had a cable...

Ok, a bit to reply to here :) Brian: "Everything I said about low levels refers only to the 5.1 analog outs. The DD/DTS signals through the digital out are unaffected, since they are decoded in the receiver. The key is to run calibration tones via the analog outs." Aha. Then I agree...

Appreciate that explanation, but now almost more confused :) For example, DTS out through the Digital output of the 563 sounds the same as my old Toshiba, which is definitely "hot" on the LFE -probaly the 10dB. To solve it, I switch from Digital out to Analog 5.1 out and it seems much closer...

Hi Gary, Perhaps your last was written quickly, but I have been under the understanding that Dolby and DTS are 80Hz crossover normally. Prior to DVD-A and SACD that is how I have set up every system. I *thought* that the 563 treats DVD-A at 100Hz crossover and SACD at 200Hz. That is also...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Ok, finished trying and adjusting all ten types of discs I can play with this player !!!! All are very, very good except for both 2 channel and multichannel SACD. No way will a 200 Hz crossover ever sounf right and unlike DVD-A, the sub level in either SACD mode is definitely around 10 dB...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

I wish I could afford the Denon at the moment as that would be the solution (I think). How much range does it have on speaker level control? But if DD and DTS have a 10DB boost on LFE, then that helps this make a bit of sense as well. I can only set my system to be balanced "once" since I use...

Well, the image is getting better, but if I have it spot on for VE, then it is not at all acceptible for watching Cable. But...let's talk audio today. I finally hooked up the analog outputs (5.1). Had used the 2 ch analogs previously and found that, for CD for example, the dig out to my proc...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Well, I'll be damned :) :) :) Ok, geometry is now very good. BUT, picture looks like it is not bright enough, a little soft, a little red hot even though it is set to the VE standards. And it looks even dimmer and softer through cable. Any suggestions? And where should the Wega MODE and...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Thanks for the replies. I did setup the Wega with VE early on. But here is where my confusion comes in. I do not see or recall any setting on either the Wega OR the 563 that would adjust vertical lines. And it seems to me that any adjustments made to the Wega now will also modify the viewing...

Well, I had no geometry problems before with the Wega nor with TV on it. The Wega is set pretty well for all sources. I would be surprised if white level make any difference, but I shall try.

Taya: The right and left edges of the setup menus are not straight vertical lines. The horizontal lines are good. But the outlined rectangular boxes are not rectangles in *most* cases. Sometimes keystoned, sometimes a little pincushioned. Varies with each menu. And it is also noticeable on...

Boy do I know how to kill a conversation :) Anyway - playing with it more video-wise and I notice that the built in setup menus are not crisp square lines, either. Anyone have one of these and a flat screen Wega and can confirm theirs has good vertical lines in setup menus? If so, I think I...

    Pioneer DV-563A Review

Hi folks, Read a good part of this thread today and thanks for all of the information. My Toshiba SD3109 died recently and would have cost more in parts to fix than it was worth. Unfortunately, needed something to keep me going and could not afford a Denon 2900 or even 2200 right now. So...

Might need a new DVD player - suggestions please

Well, turns out the bearing on the spindle motor went. Not too hard to fix. Except Toshiba doesn't sell spindle motors. They will only sell the entire head assembly at $168 which is out of the question to repair my SD3109. So, unless someone has a broken Toshiba SD3109 I can pick and pull...

Might need a new DVD player - suggestions please

Thanks Leo. At least I now know that a progressive player is no problem with an interlaced TV for now. Not sure of my budget either. As little as possible and no more than $500 at "a deal" I would think. If I am missing something major at this price point, I would wait. ANd AUDIo is at...

Might need a new DVD player - suggestions please

Hi folks, Although my DVD player is maybe 4 years old now (Toshiba - forget which model) it has served well and performed as well as I could ask. Audio was excellent, which is a criteria for me. Last night, it would no longer load a disc and all discs show "disc error". So, it seems it is...

    Not impressed with SVS

What you are missing here, Mike, is that the mains are never placed in the room for their "sub" woofers to take advantage of proper placement in the room. And most full range speakers rarely go below 30Hz. Running them small and using a sub properly located in the room will create much less...

For the price, Rodney, I think its great. Would like separate bass settings for CD, DD, DTS and would like Pro Logic II, but aside from that it does what I need and sounds very good. -=Bob=-

Well, I can understand your point. What has happened is that I have heard what a great sub can sound like in a small room. I've been through three sets of subs and haven't been able to achieve that. The more I tinker, the more I learn. In no small way a lot of what I have learned has come from...

Ok, getting a bit late and my hearing is fatigued so I have to confirm tomorrow. But, if I'm right, then the bloat is between 68-74 Hz. Dropping this 8 dB makes the biggest difference of any band on the bloat. -=Bob=-

Interesting suggestion, Mark. As you can see above, I am using all 12 filters to get a "flat" response. I think I'll duplicate the BFD settings for another preset and kill the lowest filter so I have one to "sweep". What bandwidth do you suggest for this "sweep" filter? Mains and sub are on...

Richard, I wouldn't write off the Hsu just yet. The hum is so minor it is insignificant. I only mention it because it is there, but most people would not even hear this. I have to be on top of the sub, literally, to hear it. Three feet away it is VERY hard to hear. And it could be my system...

Its not the BFD Richard. No problem with it on SVS or Sunfires. And it is plugged in to a Monster 2500 conditioner. The hum is SO slight with a cheater. Not really worth mentioning. I have to be right on top of the sub to hear it. But then again, there was silence with the SVS's. -=Bob=-
