    Kingdom of Heaven - Director's Cut - 5/23/06

I just got this in the mail from my regular import shop and after viewing it I have to say it's a stunning movie (with very nice packaging). I haven't seen the theatrical release, so I can't tell where the additions are, but I thought the opening overture as well as the entr'acte on the second...

Any thoughts on a new game

I can't really give you any pointers on XBox titles, but based on your preference for strategy games I think you might enjoy Galactic Civilizations (www.galciv.com) quite a lot. It's an excellent 4X title and the upcoming sequel expands on practically everything found in the original. In case...

Help ID an old arcade fighting game

Yie Ar Kung-Fu: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?...&game_id=10513 Oh, to think of all the lunch money I poured into that machine back in the day... :b

What games drove you to insanity? or What games couldnt you finish?

I played a load of text adventures on my old Commodore 64. Could it be Seabase Delta? I gave up on FFX when I reached the final battle - My characters were just too weak and I didn't have the time and patience to go back and unlock all the super weapons. I enjoyed playing it, though.

Valve opens release Date for Half-Life 2!!!!!

I just finished the game. It took me about 16 hours of playing time to get to the end. What a great ride! Hopefully we don't have to wait another 6 years for the next episode. :D

Valve opens release Date for Half-Life 2!!!!!

AFAIK CS:Source is the multiplayer component of HL2 no matter which version you buy. Also, Doom 3 was a "back to the roots" kind of game. HL2 is more interested in throwing set pieces at you while serving up an engaging story. If you liked the first game odds are you'll like the sequel.

Valve opens release Date for Half-Life 2!!!!!

I'm pretty awestruck. It was definitely worth the wait... Favourite parts so far: - Reaching the rooftop in the beginning and looking towards the Citadel and seeing thousands of drones being dispatched. All of them searching for YOU! - Combine snipers: the laser sight effect was just a...

Once Upon A Time in the West question

IIRC, Cheyenne was shot when he attacked Morton's train. We don't see the actual attack, only Frank finding Morton just before he dies (after the attack by Cheyenne).

    Settlers of Catan!

I've played it quite a lot with a group of friends who are complete Settlers fanatics. Since we live pretty far from each other, we have taken to S3D, which is a complete online multiplayer version of the basic rules (they're even implementing the expansions - Seafarers is already in there)...

    Running an older game problem

For the MS-DOS based oldies you should take a look at DOSBox. I've had great success getting games like Colonization and Bard's Tale running more or less flawlessly. It basically provides better DOS emulation (with sound and mouse support) than what's offered in Windows 2000 and XP. It's got a...

    Rehash -- AMD/Intel

I noticed a definite inprovement in responsiveness in the Windows environment when I switched from an older P4 2.8GHz to a P4 3.06GHz with hyper-threading (more than can be explained by a relatively puny 200MHz increase in CPU speed). I too work with heavy applications and the hyper-threading...

How about a Blade Runner sequel?

I'm well aware of that. I meant the cabin bit as an extension of the theatrical ending.

How about a Blade Runner sequel?

    K. W. Jeter wrote a series of "official" Blade Runner sequels in book form in the 90's. If I recall correctly they were rather poor. Jeter apparently couldn't decide whether to stick to the world of the movie or Philip K. Dick's novel, so the ones I read came out as a weird mish-mash of both...

The scariest line of dialog in any film you've seen

He says something like: "Let's end it. It'll be easier for you." The fact that he delivers the lines as if he's comforting his victim is the really chilling part. Brrr...

    Deus Ex 2

Several previews have complained about horrible framerates on the XBox builds. The PC version apparently has some pretty steep system requirements as well. I read somewhere that a demo should be close to release, so we should be able to get a taste soon. About the gamepad thing, I played...

***Official ALIEN Director's Cut Discussion and Review Thread***

In the original version, the countdown starts at the 96 minute mark (give or take a few seconds) and the ship explodes at about 103 minutes. This is going by the R1 DVD of course. The cocoon secquence that is presented in the deleted scenes section is about 3 minutes and 20 seconds (I...

***Official ALIEN Director's Cut Discussion and Review Thread***

In the script the cocoon sequence takes place immediately before Ripley starts the self-destruct mechanism. The original idea was to imply that the cocooned humans would somehow turn into new eggs for propagating the alien. Giger described it as "a stage through which a victim of [the fully...

    2-disc Cronenberg from Criterion!

The film has a lot more in common with Burroughs' autobiographical works than the book of the same name. Can't wait to get this one. The audio recordings of the man himself reading Naked Lunch should be a riot.:)

***Official Finding Nemo DVD - Discussion Thread***

I believe the fullscreen version uses recomposited renders. The individial characters have been moved slightly to make them fit naturally into the 4:3 frame. The images were subsequently generated again. Pixar used this technique before when releasing 4:3 versions of their other movies.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Adventures of Indiana Jones (Highly Recommended)

I got the Canadian set earlier this week and it's completely identical to the US release. The only difference is a piece of paper covering the back of the package. It's glued on but removes very easily and leaves no mark on the case.

Recommend Some Good Ghost Stories to Me

Jacob's Ladder certainly has it's moments. It's a very underrated movie IMO. It has very little gore but quite a lot of disturbing imagery and tons of atmosphere.

What a surprise, Halflife 2 delayed

The HL2 benchmarking program should be available on the 30th. I guess we'll know what's required after that. I recall reading that the GF4 wasn't too bad at running HL2 in DX8 mode. It even had the snazzy water effects with only minor loss in quality.

Freedom Fighters gets a 9.3 on Gamespot and supports 720p

Had the day off so I picked it up this morning (PC version). It's very good fun, if not quite deserving of the 9.3 score. There are a few annoyances although the core gameplay is extremely addictive. I've had squadmates disappear on me a few times. I suspect they've fallen "through" the...

Freedom Fighters gets a 9.3 on Gamespot and supports 720p

While Eurogamer's review wasn't quite as glowing, the game does seem promising. The PC demo was certainly fun in spite of the bugs. Might be a nice aperitif while waiting for Max Payne 2...:)

If you could live in a video game...

Bwahahaa! Good one, Todd. I've always been partial to the Fallout setting, although I can't imagine life being anything but short and brutal there. Forgotten Realms (Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale, among others) would offer many amazing sights.
