Talk to a poster/framing who does plaque mounting. If you can provide a good color pic of the logo you want, they can make it look just like the commercial plaques you can buy- but there is one catch:
it costs less.
If it's only 9 months old, why can't you exchange it? I'd be upset if that happened to me. You should have some sort of warranty with the purchase of the unit.
Wow- I'd like to see that, too! Do you get a better bass response if you flush mount yourself into the sub? Wouldn't that block the view for others?
j/k
Very few HT speakers are self-powered. There are some out there, but they are the exception rather than the rule. You need the receiver to power the spekaers, as tey are passive. Let's ask this to clear this up: are the "speaker outputs" on the rear of the DVD player a speaker-wire typ...
1) Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon(SuperBit) : Stunning picture and sound quality
2) Matrix (same as above) the classic DVD to show off to friends.
3) Star Wars- Episode 1 (same as both above)
That depends on how happy you are with the current setup.
The only person you have to please is you. Are you aching to upgrade, and have the means to do so? Then I'd hold off. If you're satisfied that a little more low-end would finish the equation for you, I'd look at the price of sub...
Unsolder the IR eye from the circuit board, and put a length of wire between the baord, and the eye! I did that to control my 2nd receiver (shaker amp), and it works like a charm. It's not as intrusive/difficult as it sounds, and can easily be undone if desired.
Have you tried all the easy fixes already? Adding bracing, damping, internally/externally re-wiring using top-quality wire (preferably DIY Cat-5 braided!), upgrading the x-over components, or adding a bag of sand to the bottom of the enclosure? I did these to my towers, and it opened the sound...
Geez, I wish I had a dig. camera. You'd make a mess in your pants if you saw the underside of my couches. One has 2x10" shakers, the other has 1x12". Use this link, and you'll laugh at any previous attempts at "shaking" your couch. My stove across the house shakes violently...
I bought a variable power supply from a dollar store for $9. I use it for exactly the same purpose, but for cooling my Rx which I use as a shaker amp. I have it at about 4.5V, but can increase or decrease it at will. I had to cut the supplied power plug off- the round one which accepts the...
Or, you could always make'em yourself. (heehee)
Use a good color printer, have the prints laminated, and/or plaque mounted, and voila! Super-cheap. I even made my own DVD-case matinee sign, like the ones they sell on the 'net for $30. I used the above technique, but laminated the small...
I'd use the Morel given the choice, but both are fine drivers. I'm looking at both as possible drivers for my DIY as well. Love the Dynaudios, but too much $$...
Ryan,
Asking for everyone's advice is all fine and good, but remember who's paying for, and has to listen to these new speakers. Everyone's opinion is subjective, and should be taken with a grain of salt. What it really comes down to is; whatever sounds good to you, and is affordable to you...
How 'bout cutting a semi-circle the same circuference as a 1/2 piece of abs plastic out of the middle rear of each shelf? Cut the abs in half, run the wires up and down the middle, then cut the abs to length for each shelf, hiding the wires. Of course the pipe would be painted... and it could...
Well, supposing your existing box is of suitable size and build for a powerful sub, for $275, you can't really go wrong. One thought: If you believe the existing sub and amp are sub-par, why do you think the box they are mounted in is any better? If your enclosure is a touch over-sized, I...
I believe when x-overs are cascaded, the more extreme of the two would be the set point. i.e. in a low-pass, the lower of the two would be the cutoff freq.
Jack- have you considered moving the IR eye to the front of the remote? When I removed my IR eye from my 2nd receiver, I hot-melt glued it to the front of the remote, and added an umbilical cord betwen the circuit borad, and IR eye. It works perfectly, and allows me to hide the remote, because...
If you're not using the sub out on your RX because your sub has only low-level inputs, use the sub out to the 2nd RX!!
Using the 2nd Rx has the added benefit of an idependant volume for the shakers, too.
I tapped off my front speakers for the shakers' signal, and literally turned speaker-level to RCA. No converter, just spliced RCA connectors onto speaker wire. During loud passages, I have a little over 10V of signal going into my shaker amp(10 year old Technics 70w/ch)with no problem. I have...
I wouldn't put that thing near my tv! Personally, I'd open the other two up, and see if I could'nt change out the cap on the x-over. This can make a difference. Are your cables equidistant from your receiver? Just ideas.
I can't get over that fact you can turn the volume up to 12:00!!! I've never been able to do that with any receiver I've ever used- for 2ch. music, or HT. I've read that after the 10:00 position, the Rx doesn't really make any more power, so maybe you're maxxing the amp. Regardless, it sounds...
Or, you could always make some- for WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY less than anyone charges. I'd challenge anyone out there, with 5 pairs (or less)of any brand of commercial shakers to a shake-off. My 10" monsters shake the my oven, on the lower floor of the house!!!
Here's the link: I've kept it kinda...
