You may want to consider doing some kind of bass trapping in the corners. This can help minimize the cancellation at the listening spot. Properly done, it can make a dramatic improvement in the quality and articulation of the bass.
Here's a short article on a simple technique to help you find the best location for your sub. Proper calibration is also essential to maximize it's performance. http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/...g_for_bass.php
I had a problem once with a tweeter on one of my Studio 40's V.2. I discovered it when I was calibrating with pink noise from VE, and could hear an unmistakable crackling noise. I couldn't hear anything amiss with music or sound tracks, but it was definitely there with the pink noise. I called...
Teldec's "Organ Spectacular - Famous Organ Works by Bach" is a good one, available on DVD-A. "Toccata and Fuge in D Minor", great for Halloween, is on track one. Another CD that I found that has powerful good organ music is "Pomp and Pipes".
UPS rant:
I'm a former UPS irregs guy, and a former union steward as well. I've represented hundreds of employees during my seventeen years at UPS, with thirteen of those years as a union steward. The employees are under tremendous and constant pressure to perform at high levels of output, and...
That's strange. I also have a 3802 and one Ultra/Sampson 1000 in a 16'x26'8' room. At the sweet spot, with my Paradigm 40's calibrated at 75 db on VE, I have to run the receiver sub out at -9 db, to get 75 db (~3 db hot) on the RS SPL meter at the sweet spot 12' from the sub in the corner. I...
What a coincidence. I also had a PW-2200 and a CS Ultra with a Samson S1000. I liked my Ultra better, and sold my PW-2200 to my cousin, who recently purchased Studio 40's/20's V3. The 2200 is a really good sub, but it just couldn't compete with my SVS. Cheers, Tom.
I have four Studio 40's for front and rear, a Studio/CC, and an SVS Ultra/S1000. I also have a PW-2200 that sits idle in the bedroom. This is all powered by a Denon AVR-3802. I'm very happy with this combination. When I eventually upgrade, this system is going in the bedroom, except for the...
I have a Lovan Millennium with four shelves. It's quite heavy due to the very thick glass shelves. It's their flagship model. Let me know if your're interested.
Hi Johnny, I have an Ultra with a Samson S1000 in League City that you're welcome to demo. The rest of my system consists of four Paradigm Studio 40's, Studio/CC, Denon 3802, PW-2200 (unused), Panasonic RV31 DVD, and a Sony KV-34XBR800. Drop me a PM and we'll arrange a demo. Tom
For sale: I have a mint condition Dish 4700 satellite receiver with the dual LNB Dish 500 antenna with 100' of coax. It has the original access card. I'm asking $100 and the buyer will pay for shipping from Houston, Texas.
A friend of mine has purchased the Onkyo S655 HTiB and needs to run a long subwoofer cable through the attic to the sub that has to be located behind the couch due to the WAF. This could possibly require 40'-50' of cable. He is on a budget and a local Tweeter manager suggested that he could use...
I second the vote for the SVS Ultra/Samson S1000 combination. It's an awesome sub! You could then add a second Ultra at a later date for even more bang! You can't go wrong with SVS.
A friend of mine is considering the purchase of either the Kenwood HTB-505 or Onkyo S650 Home Theater in a Box. Has anybody compared these two systems side-by-side? Which system has the better speakers and/or subwoofer? We have read many reviews of these systems and for the most part, both...
