Hi All,
My rusty Sony 36" XBR250 WEGA TV can not output Progressive Scan, nor it has a 'manual' Vertical Squeeze feature, as a result, I am on a quest to get THE BEST video output device for my Console gaming needs. (Have all ‘Big Three’: Xbox, GameCube and PS2)
This Video Output Device of...
How do you turn this feature ON? Does a PS enabled game (XBox, GC) makes THAT much of difference to warrant purchase of a PS enabled TV Set?
I have a 36" SONY WEGA (Year 2000 Model) XBR250 and unfortunately it does not have PS, nor "Manual" Vertical Squeeze feature. :frowning:
How about PC...
Dear All,
I just recorded (or captured should I say) my very first movie (Sony DCR-TRV17 NTSC) on my VAIO PC (using Premiere 6.02) and although I am happy with the results, I would like to know:
1 - What Video settings should I use? (QuickTime, Windows Media Player)?
2 - How can I compress...
Does Sound Blaster Audigy 2, encode Dolby Digital 5.1 sound in Real Time? (like nVIDIA's nFORCE Motherboards, or the one that is currently being used in the XBox)
The reason? See this thread:

Actually that is Audigy Platinum eX that you are talking about (with the fron Face Plate).
See this interesting thread:

Hi All,
I have purchased a Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer, and I need to know how can I connect it to a soon to be purchased Dolby® Digital 5.1 A/V Unit?
I mean I have a Dolby® Digital 5.1 A/V system installed in my living room and I have used 6 speakers’ cables to the back of this unit, whereas...
I can definitely notice the artifact known as 'tearing effect' when running SHREK (Game for XBox) on my 36" Sony KV-36XBR250.
I know this because my unit does not have the Progressive Scan feature, hence the 'tearing effect'.
I wish I could connect my XBox to my 22" ViewSonic (PF815) Monitor...
How can you tell if you have a 10GB Seagate or an 8GB Western Digital Hard Disk in your Xbox unit? (without opening the unit and voiding your warranty that is)
Is there going to be a drive utility that recognizes the model and size of the HDDs written in near future?
Since the Seagate Hard...
If so, then I guess you can enjoy the Progressive Scan feature of the games. Since PC Monitors have this feature built in. (my 'old' 36" Sony KV-36XBR250 TV set does not have PS Feature, that is why I am interested to see what is the big deal and difference between PS and non PS visaul)

This is what I would call a "friendly" solutions to all the World's problems! :D
Thanks for the great informative responses, I really appreciate them all.
I forgot to let you know how my set up looks like (or used to before I replaced my Dreamcast with XBox!) :D

To Dave Falasco:
Thanks so much for great and 'comforting' response. Now I can happily go back and finish Halo and Munch's Oddysee! :D
Bill Gate's new TOY opened a MAJOR flood and debate on this PS and HDTV thing! I guess he is trying to hint that HDTV is the way of future! (which is of...
Does "Progressive Scan" look REALLY better than the 'Standard' (480i I guess)?
I have an 'older' 36XBR250 Sony WEGA TV (non "Progressive Scan") and I am kind of envious that the newer models (400 and 450) have the "Vertical Squeeze" and "Progressive Scan" features.
Now back to the question...
How much a "Progressive Scan" image (DVD or XBox game, specially XBox games) looks better than 'Standard' version?
I have a Sony WEGA 36" (36XBR250, 1999 model non-P"rogressive Scan") and I am envious that the newer models (like 36XBR450) have TWO COMPONENT connectors and "Progressive Scan"...
Thanks for the response. I used to have them connected via VIDEO 1, 3, and 4 and changing the input (sound and picture). But that I realized how easy it is to press a button on remote and get BOTH sound and video signal, is a good one.
I am thinking to get a SVGA Connector for PlayStation2...
Hi,
Since the video signal have to travel through the A/V Unit, doesn’t it loose
a bit of quality and ‘degrades’ a bit?
Here is the SETUP:

That's where my problem lies: The PS2 automatically does not send a signal to the TV that it is playing a 16:9 format, as a result I don't see the 16:9 feature.
My DVD Player however does. The thing is that my WEGA TV does NOT have the 'manual' 16:9 feature in its setup, so it is at the mercy...
Dear All,
I have a GT3 Racing Pack (SCPH-35001, USA, NTSC, and ‘Default’ DVD Player 1.30U).
Well after I updated the DVD drivers supplied with the remote, it reads as 2.10U.
The thing is according to the manual you can watch 16:9 ‘Wide-Screen’ movies, but when a DVD is playing
and I press...
Dear All,
Both my DVD Player and my A/V unit have support for dts and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio formats. Most of the DVD’s that I have watched were in DD 5.1, but the other night I watched “Meet the Parents” (Very funny movie!) and I used its dts audio feature and I couldn’t tell the difference...
Thanks for the info.
DARN! I just returned my Monster COAXIAL cable and bought a Monster OPTICAL instead.
Am I screwed then?
I chose 1M long (instead of 2 or 3M) to minimize the interference as much as possible, besides, my DVD-Player is right on top of my A/V unit so even a 1M cable is long...
Thanks, but I have connected my PS2 to my ONE AND ONLY 'Component' Input, as a result the other Video Input is S-VIDEO that I have connected my DVD Player.
Have you connected your PS2 using a S-VIDEO?
Dear All,
Thanks for clarifying the 16:9 question that I posted earlier. Now I have another question about the DVD AUDIO:
My Sony A/V Unit (equipped with built-in Dolby Digital/DTS Decoder) has both the OPTICAL and COAXIAL (and traditional Front, Left, Right, Sub-Woofer) Inputs.
In the past I...
Thanks for the responses.
I am sure that my Sony KV-36XBR-250 DOES have the 16:9 feature.
What it DOES NOT is the ability to 'manually' select it:
I am at the mercy of any 16:9 enhance DVD to send a signal to my TV to utilize this feature, and not being able to 'manually' turn in ON/OFF.
On...
Dear All,
I have a Sony WEGA KV-36XBR250 [June 1999, no Progressive Scan feature] and for all the DVDs that I have watched for the past 2 years, I have seen them in “Wide-Screen” / “Letter-Box” format (black bars on top and bottom) and thought that was the best I could get.
Well today I rent...
