Ordered and already received, but… Starman came with 2 4kUHD discs - the John Carpenter film and instead of a blu-ray, the other disc in the keep case was a 4kUHD of Starman, the Complete Series episodes 1-11. Does anyone have Columbia/Sony home video contact info? Strange!
I prefer the title “Once Upon a Time ... the Revolution“
I picked up the blu in a Kino sale last year for $10 having never seen it and loved it. It’s more in tone with the other Leone “once upon” films, and I can’t wait to see what 4K elements Kino has to work with.
Okay I sampled the first few minutes through the credits and the 5.1 does seem more satisfying, directional and spacious than the last blu-Ray release (which sounded almost monophonic).
That being said, the 2.0 is about 2db louder, much fuller and has even more room-filling surround.
Sure I’ll check out the 5.1 and circle back.
I still have the laserdisc, had the DVD, and the previous 2 blu-rays.
This 4K release in image and audio exorcises them all 😂 I’ll check on the 5.1, but something tells me you’ll prefer the 2.0 run through Prologic or suitable matrix decoder. It...
I have the new 4K disc. For the first time since the laserdisc, this film finally sounds right on home video. Maybe there was an international release with the proper uncompressed 2.0 but I don’t have it. The 4K’s 2.0 track is the gorgeous, immersive, and downright frightening 2.0 /Dolby...
What a beautiful release. For some reason, I had been cooling on this film for the past 10 or 12 years and this wonderful presentation rekindled my appreciation of this fun ride.
Thank you for the review - I also noticed the very severe and odd audio phase anomalies. I found it unacceptable, and could not watch the film and had to turn it off after about 10 minutes. I’m very disappointed as the transfer looks very nice and was looking forward to the release.
I’ve loved Foul Play ever since I was 10 and I’m delighted it’s on blu-ray. That being said, my goodness, the grain freezes more often than my front teeth sipping a margarita. The electronic massage this has been given was unnecessary, but oh well…
I was lukewarm on the Vol. 2 set and… I absolutely LOVED Oliver! and Anatomy of a Murder. I (rediscovered) years ago A Passage To India and The Sand Pebbles when they were released on blu-ray thanks to Mr. Harris, and the new discoveries continue. Thank you!
Finally got a chance to watch the 4K. It looks absolutely gorgeous but the 5.1 audio is… unlistenable. I A-B’d the old blu-ray to compare the 5.1 mixes and while I cannot confirm if the 4K includes an entirely new re-mix from the stems or is an overly sweetened and expanded repurposing of the...
I saw this as a young teenager with my dad and it made quite an impression on me. I didn’t quite follow everything at the time but the overall tone of being lost between good and bad certainly resonated. Just rewatched Serpico a few nights ago and then followed with POTC. I prefer Serpico; I...
This is a remarkable film with an astounding central performance. Last time I saw this was on DVD in the late 90s, and I can’t wait to see this again. So glad to see this release. Ordered!
I’m curious to read other reactions as I’m just very confused by this release. We watched The Sting in its entirety on a Sony 4k projector @ 92 in. I did get the steel book at Best Buy and I’m assuming it has the same discs as the regular 4K release.
Look at the sky in the matte painting shot and compare the 4K and the included Blu-ray Disc. The blu-ray is less degrained. I’m totally confused by this release. What happened?
Wow. The UHD looks more degrained and cosmetically massaged than the included blu-ray in the 4K set. Example: the matte painting shot right after The Set Up title card.
Mind boggling. And here I was hoping to retire my HD-DVD copy (and player).
