Thank you everybody for the responses. I think I tracked down--and fixed the issue. I was checking settings and discovered that Audyssey's auto configuration had set the level of one of the rear speakers at +12 decibels (the others ranged between -4 and -5). Looks like it was a bad connection to...
The manual says the AVR1613 delivers 120 watts per channel.
The speakers:
Front: Bose 301V rated 10 - 150w
Center: Sony SS-CN305 rated 120w
Rear: Sony SS-SR305 rated 100w
Subwoofer: Yamaha YST-SW105
Maybe there's a short where the wires connect to one of the speakers. I'll check that tomorrow...
We've just replaced our ailing receiver with a brand new Denon AVR1613. The sound is great using surround sound (5 speakers and a subwoofer), however in putting it through its paces we've found that the protection circuit activates--shutting down the amp--whenever volume gets high during a loud...
My 4-year-old Onkyo TX-SV454 Audio Video Control Receiver is crapping out. I'm looking for a replacement. Any recommendations? I've got a fairly modest, 6-channel, home theater system with a pair of Bose 301 V bookshelf main speakers, Sony center and rear speakers, and a Yamaha 50 watt...
Thanks for the reply. I went through the amp manual to ensure it wasn't some setting I accidentally changed, but no joy. Also, it's not 100% silence coming through the center speaker, rather I sometimes get a faint hiss or buzz instead. Doesn't bode well. :frowning: By the way, the interior...
I've had my 6-speaker/Dolby 5.1 home theater audio system for about four years. Unfortunately, the center channel has suddenly started working intermittently. I thought I had the problem solved at one point, only to turn on the system again with the same problem--no signal to center speaker...
Hi Wayne,
Thank you for your tip. You say: "purchase a 20 foot RCA gold interconnect cable. Separate the two sections of the new cable and re-use your existing connetor to bridge the new cables", I assume you mean that I should replace one of my (two) cable lengths to the subwoofer? Or do you...
You guys are way ahead of me. I'm just considering relocating my Yamaha YST-SW105 subwoofer in the crawl space under the floor (in order to shorten the cable run from the amp).
I'm considering relocating my subwoofer from behind the sofa to under the livingroom floor (there's a 3 foot high crawl space). Before I go through the trouble, I thought I'd ask: is it worth the trouble? Or is a floor too much for even the low frequencies of a subwoofer to penetrate?
Yuck. I suppose it's the cable--when I disconnect it from the subwoofer, the hum stops. It's 30 ft. of cable though--two 15 footers with a gold connector in between. Weren't cheap either. They run under the livingroom floor through a crawl space. Don't know why they're suddenly misbehaving after...
My subwoofer has suddenly taken to intermittently humming loudly, but other than that, it appears to work fine.
The humming initially started whenever my 5-year-old son would jump from the sofa to the floor (something he’s inclined to do despite his parents’ admonitions). The subwoofer is...
Thanks Chris. I was afraid of that. I've been through this before with computer monitors, but I don't think my better half is going to go for schelping a 27" TV back and forth to the store. The distortion isn't a show-stopper, but I would have expected better.
I recently purchased a 27" Sony WEGA KV-27FS17 TV and I've noticed some distortion in the picture.
The primary problem is that horizontal lines become "bent" around the left third of the picture area. Words and "ticker text bars" (ala CNN) are obviously distorted near the left side of the...
Thanks for the tip, Mike. I bought my speakers at BB and the only thing they pushed harder than Monster cables are the extended service plans.
I'll check out Accoustic Research.

I'm a home theater newbie and I am wondering if Monster RCA cables really make a difference compared to no-name RCA cables?
I'm especially concerned about a 30 foot RCA cable run I have to a subwoofer. For that I'm using a relatively inexpensive RCA cable that must be about 10 years old. Seems...
