From Catch 22:
Yossarian: Ok, let me see if I've got this straight. In order to be grounded, I've got to be crazy. And I must be crazy to keep flying. But if I ask to be grounded, that means I'm not crazy anymore, and I have to keep flying.
Doc Daneeka: You got it, that's Catch-22...
The formation is called, according to the commentators, a "swinging gate". It's main purpose is the element of surprise. So why did Washington do it again after the Giants called a time-out?
Thanks for the information Mr. Dobbs. That's just what I wanted to know. Also a thank you to Mr. Charlton for your comments. Merry Christmas and happy viewing.
Does that mean that there are no plasma sets with black side bars for 4:3 viewing? There must be plasma set owners that do some viewing in 4:3 mode. When aspect ratios other than 16:9 are viewed, the chance for burn in will still be there, albeit top and bottom as opposed to side. I would...
Are there any plasma sets ( 42" or larger) that have black side-bars when displaying 4:3 DVD's? I have a lot of older films in my collection and when I watch them I would prefer black sidebars instead of light or dark gray.
"Oh, yes there's trouble! Right here in River City."
Both the Steelers and the Patriots have lately fallen on hard times. Big Ben is struggling along with Tommy boy. Belichick seems to be losing his grip on the Pats defense and, on Wednesday, sent home four players who were late for a team...
Can anyone remember any quarterback being as accurate as Brees has been this year? In Monday's game many of his passes were to receivers who were considered "covered". One of the MNF commentators was saying that most NFL QB's would not be attempting those throws, but Brees was sticking them in...
I have been searching(with no luck) for a short story collection that I first saw in the late 1960's which contained at least three stories. One was John Wyndham's Consider Her Ways. There was also a story by William Golding and another by Mervyn Peake. The Peake story involved the character...
I'll third it. I also have the laser disc and would love to see a decent DVD release. Sorcerer, IMO, has usually gotten a bum rap over the years. I have the Criterion Wages Of Fear and I think Sorcerer stands up well to WOF.
The 1935 version of Scrooge starring Sir Seymour Hicks begins with the Lord Mayor's Christmas Eve ball. If I remember correctly, it's not in Dickens, but it is an interesting opening. Hicks is my second favourite Scrooge and Donald Calthrop is a very able Cratchit.
Someone will inevitably mention Ed Wood so it might as well be me. His two major works, in my humble opinion are GLEN OR GLENDA and PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE, both with Bela Lugosi. I don't watch them a lot but once they are on screen, I'm locked in.
I updated my A3 to 2.0 about a week ago and have played three HD DVD movies with no problems. I had version 1.1 when I bought the player and since updating I really haven't noticed any differences.
The Patriots have dodged two bullets the last two weeks. Both the Eagles and the Ravens were stuffing the run game down the Pats throat. Why didn't they keep at it? Will Pittsburgh do the same? As a Pats fan, I was, shall we say, anxious. It seems to me that a good running team should keep...
Something has to be done about women's hockey. There is a huge disparity between the Canadian and U.S. women's teams and the European teams. It is a given that either Canada or the U.S. will win gold and the only drama left is for the bronze.
Jay, I also have a Liteon DVD(5005) recorder and had the same problem with Memorex-RW discs although the Memorex-R's have been fine. I bought five Sony+RW's and have had no errors since. Try changing brands.
I simply cannot see myself collecting movies in yet another format unless there is a clearly superior difference from current DVD's. As it is, a large number of movies in my collection are from the 1930's to the 1950's. If HD will be a noticable difference, I'll have to rethink the whole damn...
At the other end of the yummy spectrum was that bowl of soup/stew? that Eowyn served to Aragorn in LOTR: The Two Towers. That scene still makes me squeamish.
It's time for my annual plug for the 1935 version of SCROOGE starring Sir Seymour Hicks. This one definitely belongs in the company of both the 1938 and the 1951 versions. Watch this one. You'll thank me.
I'm a sucker for a good seance so a couple of films I would recommend are Full Circle(aka The Haunting Of Julia)from a Peter Straub novel and Night Of The Demon based on the short story Casting The Runes from the amazing M.R. James. Kate Bush fans will recognise a line of dialogue from the NOTD...
Anybody here remember dixie caramels? They were chocolate covered chewy, fudgey caramel with peanuts. Damned things were addictive. I haven't seen them in over 30 years.
