I picked up a Denon 3802 last week. IMHO, go for the the 3802 with PL2 or pick up a discontinued 3801 at deep discount. You won't get better sound. BTW, I tried the Sony 333ES before the Denon. No comparison. The Sony had a better user interface, but the power stage was dirty and not well...

Could you be a bit more specific regarding the avr-3802. What "recent problems" are you referring to?
