Mr. Crawford. Thank you for singling me out. I have tried to make a simple and clear point as to why I'm not buying. I'm not forcing anybody to agree with me, nor am I being rude or insulting with any of my comments. On the other hand, most of the replies to my comments have been exactly...
As I've already said, I'm not willing to buy anything without knowing exactly what it is that I'm buying and that goes for any product. For my money, pressed DVDs and DVD-Rs are a completely different product and certainly not worth the same amount of money (Your mileage may vary). I'm not...
X2
I really wanted to order the "Forbidden Hollywood" sets, but I don't like DVD-Rs and I refuse to make a purchase that is essentially a lottery. If they state that the first XXXX will be pressed and have a counter of remaining left on their website (This should not be very hard to do), I'll...
I'm glad to hear that the Forbidden Hollywood sets are pressed up until now, but I'm still frustrated that there is no mention or guarantee of this on their website. I would love to order, but I'm not going to take part in a lottery.
I was just commenting on this in another thread. I'm very excited about this possibility. However, I went to the Archive website and there is ZERO mention of anything regarding pressed discs. I'm not going to place an order and hope that I'm one of the lucky ones. They need to have a system...
You busted me already! :D
That said, I've never heard of "End of the Road", and have only a mild interest in the "Dark Shadows" movies, so I won't be ordering any of those. In the meantime, I've seen dozens and dozens of films that I would have gladly purchased go to the archive. I figure...
I haven't received an E-mail yet, but I checked my account and they have a delivery estimate of the 19th. That does seem late, so I'm wondering if Olive was late in getting discs to the distribution centers?
So is there any way of knowing which kind of discs you are ordering when you place your order? I would like to support this effort, but I refuse to pay $40 for DVD-R. I cannot find any mention of this on the listing at all.
I honestly don't think that we'll ever see a new pressed title from WB. I can't t think of the last one that I bought, but it's been approximately 2 years. I used to spend $100+ per month on WB titles. They will continue to recycle their top 20 every couple years and everything else will be...
I missed the added bonus, but I still picked up "Being John Malkovich", "The Gold Rush", "Shallow Grave", & "Harold & Maude". I may make a second purchase near the end of the sale.
That's exactly what I was envisioning. I'm thinking that I may have one of those laying around in the basement. I'll have to spend some time hunting this weekend.
I just picked mine up at Best Buy. Here are my immediate observations.
The first thing I noticed was that Best Buy's regular price for this product is $69 as was clearly labeled on the front of the package. I don't understand why the range of prices on this is so dramatic, but I got mine for...
Wow! Amazon's price jumped up $20 the other day after I had placed it in my cart. I just placed my order with BB for a grand total of $48 and some change. I'll easily be able sell off my current volumes for $5 each at a local establishment and now have the additional discs for a few...
The DVD of this movie is an absolute embarassment and quite possibly the worst in my entire collection (including El Cheapo Public Domain titles). I'm very excited to see what Olive eventually releases as it almost certainly has to be better than what is currently available. I saw this...
I'm excited, disappointed, & confused all at the same time.
The missing extras on "High Noon" is disturbing to me, but not as much as the complete absence of extras on "Invasion..." which in the very least is worthy of a commentary track. That in conjunction with the incorrect press...
What could possibly be holding this title up? Are the elements in bad condition? Is there a rights problem?
This seems like a no-brainer having starred Randolph Scott and directed by Fritz Lang. Fox has released dozens of titles that are not as significant as this one.
....not to...
I would love this as well.....but I want to stress that both versions should be available. I've been watching one version for my entire life, so I don't want to abandon that one.
It's a real shame that during the years this film wasted away in Lion's Gate's hands, we lost both Kevin McCarthy...
I was only able to squeeze in time to watch the first half hour over the weekend. I was underwhelmed by the picture quality thus far, but they may be a result of the PAL to NTSC conversion. All of the brick walls that are shown early in the movie danced and jiggled to the point of distraction...
Shockingly, I just received my copy! This appears to be a very nice set. The booklet is 40 pages and on very high-quality paper (It makes me think of Criterion). I hope to view it this weekend, but it's a pretty busy weekend already. If I get to it, I'll let you know.:)
.....and what about Betty Boop? I'd heard for years that these cartoons were part of the Republic deal but that Lionsgate was uninterested in releasing them.
As excited as I am, I am still absolutely puzzled by Parmount's lack of interest in the Republic library. There was another thread with a Paramount executive which showed overwhelming interest in many of the above titles, yet they continue to re-license these. I would argue that "The Quiet...
I think I would buy about half of these!!! That is as long as Parmount gives them access to good materials. I don't know if that was previously a problem with Paramount or with Lion's Gate.

This is a pleasant surprise!! "Lady for a Day" is one of the only Capra films from the 30's that I have not yet seen......I avoided the old DVD. I've had DVD-R that I recorded off of TCM for quite some time, but feared that it's quality would be lackluster and was holding out. I can't wait to...
I would say just about everything. I love how it's laid out with a full description of each short right next to the appropriate disc. In my opinion, it's the ultimate blend of looks & content with function getting a downgrade due to the scratching and glue issues. I love how it fits on the...
A packaging award is ALWAYS going to be awarded to the most attractive packaging.....so I'm not sure why that is so surprising. I like the packaging quite a bit....and if they had decided to put the discs in a protective sleeve to start with, nobody would be saying anything right now. Things...
