DRC basically takes the standard 480i signal and displays the picture at 480p or 960i depending on which mode you select. It doubles the lines and horizontal resolution so you don't see scan lines.
The TV will display HD 1080i but only with an external set top box and through the component...
I had the EXACT same thing happen on my new 32". It would flicker. It happend a couple times a day for a while but then it happened every couple minutes. They replaced it with a new one and it has worked perfectly. Someone else had the same problem. Maybe a production issue.

I have the 3802 and the 27Mhz it is rated at should be enough to not degrade a DVD component signal, but probably not a HD signal. You can always test it and see!
I have the Sony 700P, and it's a mixed bag. I have done a lot on analysis and found that the progressive mode is very soft. I believe it is to mask the chroma bug. I can still see it in very obvious locations when right next to the TV, but not normally. I have the new XBR450 and I have found...
I had that problem initially. Basically, you need to set the video out properly with the DVD audio selection on the receiver. When you have changed inputs to DVD, then hit the video delect button and turn it to DVD. From then on, it will remember what video goes with the dvd audio.
I decided...
There was a post a while back from someone at Denon about the component video.
He mentioned that the swicthing in the 3801 and below receivers does not do 50 Mhz but that it should be plenty for most setups. He mentioned that the 50 Mhz standard was very arbitrary and shouldn't really be...
Not true about the 3802. It is a number of enhancements:
1. 5W more power on all channels
2. Better shielding
3. DPLII
4. Better power supply
5. Warmer sound - more like 3300 than 3801
Also, why does everyone say DPLII is worthless? It is great for 2 channel stereo. What do you watch TV...
The DPL2 mode DOES have the width, panorama, and dimension params
I have found SoundTrack to be resonable. My local SoundTrack had 6 3802 units in stock and they sold it to me for less than $1,000. Check out www.ultimateelectronics.com for store phone numbers. They'll ship it I'm sure...
From your statement, I'm assuming you aren't dealing with an "authorized dealer". In that case, Denon won't honor your warranty no matter how much you pay for it!
It has nothing to do with the purchase price, just the purchase place.
For what it's worth, I have found my local authorized...
I also have the 450 and haven't noticed any brightness problem. So if they have fixed it in the new models, I wonder why they can't release a fix for the older ones?
I don't see your point, because Denon has promised an upgrade to the 5800 which I'm sure will include everything in the 4802 and more. It is scheduled for October. How is a flagship receiver, which Denon has promised to provide upgrades for ever obsolete? I'm sure it won't be free, but much...
The 3802 isn't in the same league as the 5800 (power, THX, inputs/outputs, upgrade capability, remote, sound quality, etc). The 5800 will have an available update for current owners this fall anyway.
I have the 3802 and it's an awesome receiver for the money.
I own the XBR450 and can say that Sony really got it right this time. The 3:2 "Cinemotion" DRC really does a nice job. In fact, it's so good that I (and others who have posted) even turned off progressive mode on my DVD to let the TV do it's own DRC. The picture is actually better. I can't...
Yes, it does have all three DPLII adjustments in Music mode.
Also, the DPLII is far superior to the DTS Neo 6. I can tell a difference and have read many reviews that conclude the same.
I'm not an expert on cables, but I can answer your OSD question. The OSD will work on the composite and S-Video output, but not the component. The reason (as explained ot me) is that it is impossible to overlay the text on HD signals that could be passed through the component connection.
People keep quoting that $650 number but it really doesn't exist at authorized dealers. Denon will deny warranty if you buy from those cheap-o online sites like crazzyeddie, etc. When searching for my 3801, I found the cheapest authorized, full warrantied, sealed box price to be around $850 +...
