Ron Moore mentions this in the podcasts. The scenes on Kobol and the forest scenes on caprica were shot in basically the same location and then color adjusted in post-production.
If the black bars on HfRO were bigger than on other 2.35:1 movies you need to use a different widescreen mode than full. Look in your owners manual for the zoom mode that works for non anamorphic DVD.:) Greg
It sounds like you are intrested in moving to separates in the future. I don't know anything about your reciever, but if it has preouts for all the channels and processing modes you need, I would get the power amp first and then later get a pre-pro. BTW I have a 1055 and think it is great, but...
I sent mine to the Canadian address listed on the forum and got my replacement disk in about two weeks. I'm sure that in the thread that the addresses were in there were Americans who had received their corrected copies.
The ETC spikes are an extra charge option on the scenario from what I have read. Hope you enjoy the new speakers and be sure to post a review when they are broken in.
I believe the 4B has a ground lift switch on the back panel. Switching it may reduce the hum from your speakers, if it is due to a ground loop in your system. I'm not sure about the humming directly from the amp though.
Good luck.
Greg
Yep, Just pull those little plugs out of the holes and plug in the banana plugs. I believe those plastic pieces are required for speakers sold in Europe to prevent confusion with the household power supply.
Greg
No, they will be fine on just one fifteen amp breaker. But if you are building, and can run 12 gauge wire a 20 amp circuit wouldn't hurt to be future proof.
Greg
What you need to do is calibrate your system, so that each speaker plays at the same volume. This can be done using the recievers internal test tones, or a calibration DVD like AVIA or video essentials. The level can be determined by ear, but it is better to use a sound pressure level...
It's better to use the fancy calibration disk, because this will take into account the whole system, from the laser reading the DVD to your seating position, rather than just from the reciever on. That said, the difference will be quite minor for most systems.
Greg
You can never have too much poweri:D (not quite too, but close enough)What normally causes damage to a speaker is an underpowered amp clipping and sending distortion to the speakers, burning out tweeters and melting voice coils. Running an amp with 200w to a speaker that can handle 100w is far...
Audio cables are 50 ohm, video cables are 75 ohm. Audio cables cannot be used as video cables because they can cause ghosting of the picture due to reflections in the cable. Video and digital (coax) cables are interchangable because they are both 75 ohm.
The MSRP of a 14B is $7000, 4B is about $2800 (it may have gone up $100-200 recently). I'm not sure about the 6B (probably 50% more than the 4B. Two 7Bs can be had for about $6000. All prices are canadian dollars.
Greg
Yes that will work. I do the same thing myself. About the only problem is that there can be a groundloop between the reciever and the computer, causing an annoying hum.
Greg
I have DM601s and run them with a Bryston 9B. I am in the process of slowly upgrading my system with higher quality components, and figured that an amplifier was the best place to start, as it is the least likely to change in the near future. The improvement in sound was impressive compared to...
My older sony receiver has a mono out that I use to hook up my subwoofer. If yours doesn't, using left and right preouts and running your other speakers small could be used. If you don't have preouts, use the speaker level inputs on your sub.
Note: using the speaker level connection does not...
Brian, -60db on the reciever volume is not very high. As thomas said getting a SPL meter and calibrating your system is an excellent idea. I still have an older reciever with the 1-10 volume knob, and like you find 2.5-3 to be a good level for CDs (5 for DVDs). Using a Denon 3801 of my...
The problem I beleive is with the TV broadcasts. I've heard that the lower and upper frequencies of TV sound is often rolled off to save bandwidth and thus results in less bass (and treble),but I could be mistaken.
:b
Greg
What you would need is a reciever with preouts, then the L/R channels could be run to your integrated amp. The preouts on the reciever have a variable level, so the reciever can change the volume of the whole system, even though you are running two speakers through the integrated amp. Setting...
I watched:
The Animal
Evolution (thank you to everyone who lowered my expectations for this movie:) )
Leathal Weapow
The Big Lebowski
and Bridge of the River Kwai
A "DC Trigger" is an output from the reciever or preamp that can turn on an amp that it is plugged into. Amps don't tend to have remote controls so this way everything can be turned on at once.
