Great news! I never expected to see this released on UHD. Never was a fan of Bill Paxton, but he’s perfect for, and really shines in, this one and A Simple Plan. Now maybe we can get the latter on UHD, which has been equally ignored during the hi-def era.
We are so lucky to have worthy UHDs of this one, and ‘Out of Sight’. Two of my favorites from Soderbergh, and I didn’t really expect either of them to show up on UHD. Sometimes these kinds of arrivals are a bigger treat to have than an all-out classic.
And though it’s in a different realm...
I understand everyone’s point about material from the era, and I would never expect anything approaching a modern production. But I did enjoy the quality and the content of the Disney stream. If that’s maintained I’ll be pleased, but trying to cast that against some of the technical reviews I’ve...
Just an FYI, but Blu-ray .com posted a review from one of their better reviewers, and its not kind. Even allowing for source limitations, the video rating is lousy, and even the usually reliable audio rating isn’t where one would hope. The steaming quality, especially for video, was rather good...
Thanks for the warning, RAH.
Does anyone know why the two mentioned, Deconstructing Harry and Sweet and Lowdown have remained so unavailable? They remain two of my favorites from Allen, but even the extensive attention to his catalog by Twilight Time has failed to bring them forth. Here we are...
Anybody else experiencing a delay getting their CK edition from B&N? My order has listed an expected arrival date (to me) of Nov 30th, but it still hasn’t shipped. My pre-order was placed about three weeks ago, and this delayed expected arrival time has been in place for a week.
Going to their...
Okay… okay… I finally had a proper viewing, including comparison. Much of what I said earlier is now retracted, including the bit about color bias. The UHD is worthy, and this marks another lesson for me in the limitations of original elements and their production. This example is probably the...
When time allows, I will go back to the previous BD and make a direct comparison. But from fairly recent viewing, my expectations for this UHD were much higher. What others indicate above was also a first impression: flat and dull, lacking vibrancy.
Maybe it’s already obvious, but I lack the...
I’m not happy with the quality of this edition. Based upon the appearance of the previous BD on my system, I was expecting a lot more from the UHD. Even the color grading is a disappointment, with what appears to me, a green bias. Unless my mind changes after subsequent viewing, this rates as my...
No...I'm guessing a fairly moderate price increase, based upon the rest of the UHD market. They would be foolish to price themselves out of the marketplace. We won't be getting Arrow-style limited editions bulging with extras (except for occasions like 'Brazil', if they still hold the rights).
With the obvious limited horizon for physical media, one would hope they’d play this game differently. How many years are left, and how many sets? Each edition should be loaded, like the celebration they’re implying by the packaging of the releases. Instead it’s like a cynical marketing scheme...
The dream release would be ‘Pulp Fiction’. No doubt it would be a major league seller, but I have no idea about rights, and all that business. The same applies to ‘Kill Bill’ 1 & 2, and for me personally, the less heralded but greatly loved ‘Jackie Brown’.
Physical media is in a strange place...
Looks like another long awaited UHD winner from Arrow UK. The specs and features are great. If there’s no US release, I’ll definitely import. UK street date is July 19th for ‘True Romance’.
Here’s the post from Blu-ray.com

I’m keeping the preorder. As time passes in the 4K era, I find that I often enjoy any given disc more (and sometimes less) than the valued assessments of the few reviewers I most trust. After spending so much time and money on this hobby, and in light of its best format to date, it boils down to...
Arrow will release Donnie Darko, theatrical and director’s cut on UHD. Release date 04/26.

Mmm... no press release. No confirming posts anywhere else that I’ve seen. The above artwork is from the Media Play website that was announcing the Ten Commandments Blu-ray package (1923 & 1956).
Until there’s more, l won’t get excited.
Another couple worth mentioning.
For some reason, it’s taken me this long to get around to watching Led Zeppelin’s ‘Celebration Day’ Blu-ray (2012) and it’s truly fantastic. No Zeppelin fan should be without it. Great concert, great disc.
And another title has come to me from the dust bin...
Don’t quote me on this, and I can’t remember the source... but I seem to recall reading within the past year that ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and ‘Panic Room’ were being prepped for UHD release. Being so vague doesn’t help, but just thought I’d throw it in. Perhaps someone who’s heard similar can...
From a purely amateur perspective: I gladly pre-ordered this wonderful and under-appreciated film, since all I had was the original DVD release from many years ago. True, the BD results are below what could have been, and should have been, but I think it’s a decent boost over my old DVD. I’m not...
Yeah, I was tempted to add that comment to mine earlier, but decided to leave it out. This concert is especially heavy in that regard. His ‘In the Flesh’ tour had a lighter touch, and it made for a better concert, and disc.
And speaking of David Gilmour, his mostly acoustic concert disc from...
Exactly, and that was the basic spirit for starting this thread. DVD offered some great concert titles, and I assumed that BD would be the perfect format for taking that great start and building upon it. Maybe part of the problem was the sloppy and troublesome format war, which pretty much...
