I'm waiting for the new color Prontos to come down several hundred bucks before making my long-term remote purchase, but have been looking at some others for the short-term. Just got an e-mail from CompGeeks with this Sony RM-VL1000 for $47.75. Anyone know anything about it? Sony remote at...
I love ultra-comfortable footwear for around the house. If you want something with actual soles, take a look at UGGs, which are high-quality sheepskin shoes/boots. Warm in the winter but not hot in the summer as you'd expect them to be. I own both regular moccasins and boots from UGGs. For...
Robert, I'm running a little variable pre-built attenuator from Radio Shaft. And I've already hooked up over at the Spot. Got the instructions there for the electrical focus that worked like a charm and totally eliminated the softness in the image. Also have this issue posted there in the...
As a few of you know from earlier threads, I just installed a WS65711 a few days ago. Out-of-the-box image was pretty unenjoyable--this Mits replaced a Tosh 65H80 that had a spectacular image. (Stumbled onto an incredible deal on the Mits that I couldn't pass up. I like the extra features.)...
I called this station back and asked them where their tower was. Turned out it's more like 40 miles from me instead of 55. When I got home, just for the heck of it, I stuck a table-top (rabbit ears with a UHF loop) antenna on top of the TV, hooked it up to the DTV antenna connector, and went to...
Okay, DOH on me. Our area stations have always been so behind the times that it never occurred to me to ask them when they'll be broadcasting HD. Decided to call 'em today, just for the heck of it. The local station, which broadcasts NBC and ABC says they'll be HD in mid-April. I was stunned at...
Thanks again, Mike. The help is indeed appreciated. And I DO hope I can get Walt up here. (We're 320 miles apart.) Just trying to educate myself and figure out if there's a viable temp solution until I can get it properly calibrated. Jerry
Hmmm. Just got an e-mail from Walt, BTW. Pretty long and over my head but I'm going to read it and absorb it. Although I've never been into the service menu on a TV, I am very tech-savvy. How big a deal is it to go in and address this problem? Also, Walt mentioned that I may not be looking at...
Thank, Bruce. Thanks, Mike. While I do plan to go with an ISF calibration, it may be a while. I don't think there's an ISF calibrationist in my whole state, much less my area, so it may take a while to get one here. I e-mailed one of the guys from here who is doing a "tour" but I'm not...
Another question: The more I look, the more I see that the picture is definitely softer than the Tosh. Any way to crisp this thing up a bit, tighten the focus? Again, thanks... Jerry
Just traded from a Toshiba 65" widescreen to a Mitsubishi WS65711 that I got a fab deal on. I've run the Video Essentials setup and other than the famed red push, picture quality is good, though certainly no better than the Toshiba. Would anyone care to share details on how to fix this issue...
Okay, got the Mits. In the house and set up. Already been through the VE setup. I've always wondered exactly what the famed Red Push would look like. Now I know. My Toshiba had perfect color in every way. If this first DVD I'm watching on the Mits isn't filmed with some funky effect or...
Thanks, Robert. The model is WS65711, and I'm assuming it's a current model since it's still listed on Mitsubishi's site in the product lineup. Unless HDTV broadcast signals are stronger than conventional signals, we're too far away from the Memphis stations. I wish! No HD around here at all...
Thanks much, Donnie. I have a retail store myself in which I've always had great luck moving my post-upgrade goods, including a couple of RPTVs, so that aspect isn't a concern. The difference between what I can comfortably sell the Tosh for vs. what I can get this brand-new-in-the-box Mits...
Haven't been here in a while, but around a year and a half ago, I got much help from folks here when choosing an RPTV. Wound up going with Toshiba's top-line 65". Can't remember the model number, but it's a gorgeous set. Now I've stumbled onto an incredible deal on my choice of either a...
I agree with Ernest. Have a new TOSH 65H80 here and a new JVC PS player feeding it. The difference between standard and PS modes is very noticeable here.
3 indoor felines here and a 16-46CS. Two of the critters have been de-clawed on the front and the third is still fully armed. She does her share of damage elsewhere, but thus far not a one of the cats has touched the SVS that I know of.
Jerry
I second the DirecTiVo combo endorsement that Jim put forth. I wish there was an HD solution in this genre but thus far there's not, so this is my favorite route at the moment.
Also know that when you go with a DirecTiVo combo box, the first one will cost you the $200 lifetime subscription for...
I've actually met Bob Carver (cool dude, major audio nut and gearhead...
I wrote a nice personal letter to Bob a few weeks ago. I enclosed it with the 2.5-year-old Sunfire sub on which the surround had separated from the cone all the way around, that I returned to Sunfire. I explained to Bob...
I haven't been to a concert yet, just Laker games, so I don't know how if it really sounds good or like crap.
You're not likely to ever hear the house system at a concert. Any semi-major act will bring their own sound reinforcement or have it contracted by a SR company.
Mike,
I just replaced a $1500 Sunfire sub with a $549 16-46CS. Do note that the Sunfire was powered, while the SVS is passive, but I'm powering it just fine with one side of a 10-year-old Technics receiver that was lying around.
The SVS blows the Sunfire away, but I do need to offer one...
