In actuality, the circumstances are not exactly as you perceive. One of WB archives' earliest 'remastered' titles ( from the era of the red banded header on the packagng) was the Mnogram noir "Violence" ( Great little gem BTW) and that title is in their private beta in HD. Mexican Spitfire...
RED DUST gets a wonderful review from RAH...but it's on the Blu-ray page here. For those interested that don't frequent that page, it makes for great reading!
Have to heartily concur with your comments. The quality on the Monogram Cowboy releases has been outstanding, almost revelatory. This lets us know how Monogram films CAN look, and I share you hope that the Bowery Boys get the same TLC.
For whatever it's worth, it was clarified on another chat board that the WB Insider Rewards program was related to the studio's website overall, and all the products that were sold on that site. Insider Rewards wasn't directly tied to the Warner Archive operation, nor part of that specific...
I received my two-parts of "The Lieutenant" this weekend, and have to say that the release is a first-class knockout.
I had not seen most of the episodes of this series ( I think I had caught one or two on cable a long time ago ), so this was a somewhat of a blind-buy for me based on the...
I couldn't agree more. I purchased the silent version of "Scaramouche" from the Warner archive on a whim, at the same time I bought the color remake. I hadn't seen the silent version, and thought it would be interesting to compare the two. I was transfixed by the earlier version, particularly by...
I had bought the UK disc of "Lisztomania", and was unaware that although the description on the website said 'widescreen', the disc turned out to be 4x3 letterbox....and not the 16x9 one would expect. It was identical to the laserdisc I had gotten in the '90s. A total waste of money.
I'm...
TCM made a huge misstep with this bungled release. I recorded "Female On The Beach" on my TiVO late last year, when it ran on Cinemax in HD with titles at 1.66, and the rest of the film at 1.77. Maybe this was just a sloppy error on their part, because someone involved had to have been aware...
Amen to that! The WB folks are doing some truly outstanding work. The preview clips on their site for both 13 Women and Blessed Event look superb. I just ordered both along with Untamed...yet another guilty pleasure.
WB's new RHAPSODY IN BLUE is revelatory in its high quality. I'm lovin' this DVD. But if you want to see a quality sample, go to Warner Archive's website and click on the clip available on the product page. http://www.wbshop.com/Rhapsody-In-Blue/1000252578,default,pd.html?cgid=ZARCHIVEALL-BEST...
I was very pleased with the quality of the Andy Hardy discs. I had them on my TiVO from TCM airings, and compared them after the DVDs arrived, and they are all SIGNIFICANTLY better than what is shown on TCM, both in terms of picture AND sound. The latter is particularly notable in ANDY HARDY...
I couldn't agree more with Rob....
The Warner Archive releases have grown increasingly more impressive, with the only downside being the way they have depleted my bank account with my buying too many of them during the recent sales. I applaud the work those folks are doing, and look forward to...
Have to agree with all the great things said about SAFE IN HELL. Mackaill is a revelation. I could say that this was my best DVD purchase yet this year, except there have been literally dozens of releases from WB's archive series that have warranted repeat viewing after arrival. I'll buy...
Warner Archive seems to have revised their return policy as it concerns defectives. There is no longer a 30 day limit for defect exchanges. A friend recently pointed out to me this change in the FAQs on their website. I've cut and pasted it below (emphasis of Bold type is my own, BTW)....

Can we say SPECTACULAR news?
Here are four very underrated films....three of which have NEVER been released on video in any form...
THE ROMANCE OF ROSY RIDGE is really a remarkable film which deserves to be better known, and the recent airing on TV looked so dark and soft I had to...
I received MOONFLEET on Saturday, and it is a perfect 16x9 letterbox image, looks to be 2.35-2.40 as it should be.
Nothing missing, and quality is uniformly excellent. Everything looks perfectly proportioned.
I think your 'bad batch' theory is a likely scenario, as I have two...
I ordered several of these films after the initial announcement was made. I was very excited about finally being able to own many favorites which I thought would never make it to DVD. I spot checked every one of them upon arrival, and found nothing problematic. Only this weekend did I finally...
Thank you to Ken, for yet another wonderfully detailed and impressive review. I have this set, and share Ken's enthusiasm and praise for its excellence. I've watched certain films more than once already, and am amazed at how the restorations on these films so dramatically improve the ability...
Indeed, that's true...and further, the liner notes specifically noted the oddity that the ballet was NOT recorded with multiple channels (rather than a case of having been recorded that way, but not surviving). I am counting the hours until this and GIGI are available. I just can't wait...
It would be kind of difficult for Warner to release NOT OF THIS EARTH or ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, since they do not own either film. Rights to many of the films Roger Corman made during his "Allied Artists" period reverted to him...that was how he got to remake NOT OF THIS EARTH in '87. A...
Indeed, a reason to celebrate! :) What's even more impressive is that NONE of these films have ever been on home video before (No VHS/BETA, No Laser). With the DVD business facing painful challenges (most significantly consumer ambivalence, retailer ignorance, and worst for all, the...
When it comes to the 'classics', this is (to my mind) the most exciting announcement from any studio in a very long time. Even in these times of a terrible economy, retail stores closing in record numbers, and consumer ennui and apathy, a bold initiative like this is extraordinary and...
An understandable confusion, but not the case............ MGM withdrew from film distribution at the end of 1973, and signed a 10 year deal for domestic theatrical distribution with United Artists. (Int'l went to CIC). The company was scaled back to making only 3-4 movies per year, and...
I heartily concur with RAH's comments. This is not only an astoundingly great release, but it should be an ESSENTIAL part of any true film fan's High Def library.
Although I have both HD and BD equipment, I purchased the HD DVD edition earlier this week, and it is a feast for the eye...and...
