You'd be hard pressed to beat the 170's for the price. Great speakers. Ascend is an internet only company...meaning you won't find them at any "dealer" store. Ascend has great customer service and you can't lose with their 30-day money back guarantee (well, I guess you do lose shipping, but...
At 30 lbs. per speaker, those things are hefty! You might want to consider putting them on a shelf instead...which may mean building/putting in one (or two, one for each). Have you contacted your distributor for tips?
I'd recommend concentrating on getting better speakers and a decent receiver that can stand alone for music, without a sub (since it's just the "occaisional dvd"). This allows you to get better equipment rather than trying to fit a receiver, dvd player, speakers, and a sub for $700. Later you...
Christopher, frustrating indeed. I really dislike it when online companies are short with my requests/questions too (and know exactly what that's like and joke about it too). It's really to their advantage to be more friendly and give more information. It makes the customer feel better that...
John Garcia, Mike, I don't mean to change the thread topic but just a quick question for John... How do you compare the M3ti to the NHT SB-2? (straight comparison for music, no sub) Thanks.
Nice. I run minis/cc370/atoms and am very happy. The good thing for you is that there are many bookshelf speaker choices in this price range. As others have mentioned you may also want to consider Axiom (M22ti or M3ti), Ascend (CBM-170/CMT-340 have received excellent reviews), and PSB (Image...
If I were you I'd consider buying one pair of speakers to start you off, with the intent of using them in your future "upgrade". For example, you could buy a pair of bookshelves like Axiom M3ti's, then move those to surround duty when you upgrade to a pair of M22ti's and center channel up front...
Nick, I use a Canare cable: LV-77S. I have had zero problems with it; great cable. I run it between an SVS and a Denon receiver. It's a 7 foot length. Actually, I'm going to be relocating my subwoofer to another corner of the room, and I'll be getting another cable, but at about 30 feet in...
Jim, thanks for the input. I think that's what might end up happening (re: the mini stereo). But the Bose Wave w/o CD is $350, and with a built in CD is $500. For $350 I thought I could come up with a comparable receiver and speakers....but maybe not...I'll have to look at those "mini stereo's"...
John Garcia, thanks for the input. Like you said, it's the price I'm having a hard time with also...for that much I think one could put together a modest setup. I'll give Cambridge Soundworks a try and take a look at the Onkyo. Where did you get those Mordaunt Short 902s? How much do they run...
Hi, I'm helping my in-laws set up a small stereo system. They do NOT need a 5.1 receiver but are not familiar with audio products. They were thinking about the Bose Wave radio, but I was thinking of a separate stereo receiver, CD player and a pair of speakers. This is for the dining room, so it...
Hi, I'd like to place my SVS 25-31pci at the back of the living room, but that means that I would need to run the subwoofer cable along the base boards (it's a condo, so I can't run the cable under the floor). The cable would have to be 30 feet long to make it back there. Would 30 feet of cable...
Mark,
this is the 12" original driver SVS used in their CS/PC lines; now replaced with their new 12" improved standard driver (ISD)...see this link:
http://www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_cs_features.htm#woofer
From the front (woofer side) the two are identical; front the back you'll see the new...
Jeff,
if it's still available then I'll be sure to let you know.
Mark,
YGM back. :)
I'll be posting some pics tomorrow afternoon (PST) of the driver for those who are interested.
Thanks,
Ed
!!SOLD!!
Yep... here's another one for sale...
I just upgraded my driver to the new ISD so I have the original. It's in perfect condition, I just wanted to upgrade.

Chris,
copying and pasting worked like a champ! :emoji_thumbsup:
Scenario one would be my choice. If your drawing is to scale, it looks like 28" to 30" stands might work well for you.
Chris,
I think you might get some mixed opinions about this....
There was a thread (last week?) that talked, a bit heated at times, about this very subject. You might want to run a search for "speaker height".
IMHO I like the "tweeter at ear level" scenario. Just above ear level has worked...
RonP,
Thanks. I tried using the IMG icon but it didn't want to work, so I gave up and just did the link...it looks like the pics still didn't come up on your post either. Nice rack by the way; I like how you added the "exterior walls" to it. How did you attach them?
Ryan,
Thanks. I really...
I finally finished my flexy rack...
Sorry, I don’t know how to post pics directly into the msg, but did include the link to my yahoo photos area where the pics can be viewed:

The pictures show the equipment: Denon 3801, JVC VCR, Sony DVD player, and of...
