that hardly seems a good analogy: you could easily transfer the data from floppy discs to some other media and still access it to your heart's content. Discarding floppy disc technology did not prohibit the use of that data in any way...
There is also a German Koch release this August, which includes a 7 disc "Koch webshop exclusive" version:
Disc 1: 4K-UHD: Neue 4K-Abtastung vom Originalnegativ von Koch Films

Untertitel: Deutsch

I only had a brief glance, but I would say the scenes/shots that are also in the theatrical cut look more or less the same as the theatrical cut itself on the first Blu-ray, which looks fine. The extra scenes look a little rougher, but still ok. Mind you, I have not had a chance to look at it in...
I've just tested it and it is indeed region B locked.
By the way, make of this what you will, but although the back cover (not really the back cover, as it is just a sheet of paper) seems to indicate the "director's cut" is in SD (actually it just states that this version is ca. 202 minutes in...
I would like to support this like I did the previous kickstarters, but unfortunately this time shipping is limited to the United States and Canada only... :(
My copy arrived today: it looks wonderful, but it is very hard to get the disc and book out of the slip-case, as it is way too tight: you will have to try and wedge a finger in to pry them out. Fortunately that does not seem to damage the slip-case.
nothing really special, to be honest:
photo gallery for the film
photo gallery of the "original colossus" (the WWII Bletchey Park computer designed to decode the German Lorenz cipher)
some 4 minutes of the pan&scan version of the movie
"trailers from hell"-trailer
video impression of the...
Fine print? Sorry, but when I look at this triple feature blu-ray on amazon.de, it very clearly shows in yellow caps on a black background on the bottom of the cover:
400 MINUTEN - STANDART DEFINITION TELEVISION - SD
Also the very first sentence of the product description reads:

You do know that Rembrandt's famous "de Nachtwacht" ("the Night watch") painting was cut from 5 by 3,87 meters to 4,37 by 3,63 meters in 1715 to fit the wall space between two doors when it was moved to what was then Amsterdam city hall (now the "Paleis op de Dam" (Royal Palace of Amsterdam)...
Dead of Night
Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Lavender Hill Mob
The Man in the White Suit
The Ladykillers
are all available on Blu-ray.... at least in the UK.
The German edition of this (available on amazon.de) is only €15.99 ... (similar as for vol. 2, which contents were exactly the same as the US release).

DVD Savant says this: "Criterion or its disc producer Issa Clubb has opted to present the film in three aspect ratios: 1:66, 1:85 and 1:33. An extra explaining the reasoning behind this is not particularly compelling." and this: "it is a precedent I'd like to see Criterion avoid." and then he...
Just now received my set (US version). Briefly scanned some of disc one of Fellowship and what I saw looks great. I will watch it completely later today. Have some shopping to do first, I fear....
Whatever makes you say that? The DVD Beaver review does not make any mention whatsoever about EE or excessive DNR or whether it was applied at all, to excess or not at all...
Hi, can't answer all your questions, as I never had a 2900, but I can tell you this much : 1) I haven't noticed a single layer change so far (I bought mine on march 6 2007) 2) All DVDs I tried so far (quite a few) all play fine. Don't own anything from the "Cinema Club" label, though 3)...
