I was told to only turn on the HDR+ mode when viewing true HDR movies (say on Netflix). Don’t have it on for non HDR material. Then I read that the HDR mode upconverts a non HDR signal.
What’s the real answer?
I have a Samsung 75
I cant get any sound from my rear speakers or sub in my 5.1 system. I have a Samsung 75mu8000 TV. Only the 3 front speakers work.
The rear surround speakers and sub are configured correctly. I tried the setup mike that came with the Denon receiver and each channel plays. But when I play one of...
Looking to replace our 57 inch, old RPTV with a wall mount TV that is 64-inches or larger. The room is dark, with no light coming in from windows, etc. Seating is only 13-15 feet away. For picture quality, what gives me my best quality? OLED is out of my price, assuming they are over $3000.1. 4K...
Just hooked up my new Sony blu-ray player to my HDTV (1080i) set.Is it common for older DVDs to show black bars on all four sides of the picture when playing. I put in the 1.85:1 "Somewhere in Time" DVD that was produced in 2000 and it gives the postage stamp effect. This DVD lists it at 1:85.1...
Named after the legendary filmmaker/actor Charlie Chaplin, our home theater is complete. In the coming year or two, a projection system will replace the older CRT 57 inch behemoth. We're happy, though. Thanks for letting me share.
Just got a Samsung PN51F4500 plasma which offers 720 HD output (actually, it scales to 768).Question: should I put my DVR Dish Network box to the 720 output setting, or since the TV converts to 1080 very well, should I put the setting on the box to 1080?
Of course, it's an eyeball decision of...
I need a replacement wall mounting bracket for my JBL N24 speaker and can't find a replacement bracket online like the one that originally came with it. Can someone, please, recommend a universal bracket that will fit the N24 ?
Hi, I'm in the process of renovating my home theater--giving it a huge facelift. What does everyone recommend to protect a new theater room type carpet from those ugly chair leg indentations? I know there are furniture cups, area rugs, etc., but my guess is there's going to be those markings in...
Not so much a question, . . . We would like to have a Charlie Chaplin themed home theater and would like to have his famous Little Tramp character on one of our side walls of the room. I tried fathead.com but they didn't have this wall decal. The only thing I have found was a 20 x 28 inch wall...
What would be the best dvd player (up to $750) for a Hitachi 57s500, realizing the Hitachi upconversion issue? Or is the Panny XP30, which I have, the way to go? --Dale
I just got the Hitachi 57s500 to go with a Panny xp30 dvd player and as far as watching dvds are concerned, there are three possible combinations here: 480i->1080i 480p->540p 480p->1080i I was just curious what a dvi dvd player would do? Would the TV set also upconvert that signal...
Regarding the Hitachi 57s500: Do most of you use the "normal" or "warm" color temp setting for dvd viewing; I know it's a matter of taste, but just curious what you use on your RPTV. When using progressive scan to watch a dvd (I use a Panny xp30 dvd player), do you toggle to 540p or...
I properly calibrated my new Hitachi 57s500 with Avia, using "input 2", 16x9 aspect, the "Night" mode and using 480p on my Panny xp30. After turning off the dvd player, and watching a HD signal from Comcast's set-top box, the images appear slightly brighter--a little too bright. I was just...
Anyone familiar with the Hitachi 57s500? Some questions: After paging thru the manual, I don't believe this set has a cinema/movie mode. How is the 2:3 pulldown activated then? And is that mode preferred for dvd movies (I have a Panny xp30)? I read some where that this TV set, like others...
I just got the Hitachi 57s500, just got hdtv installed today, and turned on the set, turned down the contrast and brightness to acceptable levels. That's it. When standing and looking at the top center of the screen, there is (and this is going to be hard to describe) what looks like a...
The salesman at BestBuy tried to get me interested in a "Monster Power Bar 1100" telling me that it will improve the picture on a hdtv set--even slightly. He took me over to an electronic readout and showed me how it "cleaned-up" the signal. Admittedly, the picture did look better, but I don't...
My Hitachi 57s500 set was delivered on Sunday morning and because the cabinet separates, we were able to take it up my six steps and around the corner in my home theater room. Now I await the Comcast cableguy to install the hdtv/set-top box. That'll happen on Thursday. Had the Toshiba 51-inch...
I was excited this morning because I knew by afternoon I would have a Toshiba 51h83 upstairs in my home theater. Well...The two delivery men took it off the truck as I watched them. They had to take it out of the box to get it up the one step and inside the front door. The hard part was...
In hooking-up my xp30 progressive scan dvd player and my HD set-top box to my new HDTV: I will be using two component cables, I know, but are there component cables made specifically for progressive scan and/or high definition TV that I don't know about, or are all component cables usable for...
Is there a beneficial reason to get a HD set with a built-in tuner? I'll be using Comcast's High def. set-top box anyway. It doesn't improve picture quality, correct? I have heard that the ones that don't have a tuner are "future proof." I haven't been keeping-up with industry news, so is...
I just came from Sears and the salesperson told me that the Sears service agreement will cover screen burn-in. He told me, for example, that if you have the habbit of falling asleep with the History Channel or with a news ticker on and get burn-in Sears will cover that. I didn't and still don't...
I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania, in Montgomery County... I spoke with a Comcast Rep this morning on the phone; she was cordial, but when I casually mentioned DVI she didn't know what that was. Fine. She informed me that I could only "rent" the High Definition Set-top box (I was under the...
I have read that it is not unusual for a new RPTV (in this case, it was a Pioneer Elite 520HD) to have this problem: the brightness drops off a bit in the first year--but gradually... The CRT's settle in for the long haul after the first year and then brightness remains pretty constant. Is...
1) Since I'm about to spend a few thousand dollars on a RPTV it doesn't make sense to NOT buy the best component video cable available--if there is such a thing. I've searched the threads and discovered many good options. I'm still left with the overriding question: is there such a thing...
To Those Familiar With a Pioneer RPTV: is the protective/glossy screen removable from the Elite models and the non-Elite models? Just need a confirmation. Thanks- Dale
A Looking ahead question: if DVI becomes the standard will that provide a superior image compared to how most of us get our digital images now? I read about this on another forum and some suggested DVI would only prevent pirating/copyright issues, not improve picture quality.
Are the stretch modes just as good on the Pioneer RPTVs as the Toshibas? Hard to find any Pioneers to view myself... What is the comparable Pioneer RPTV to the Toshiba 50hdx82?
You have just purchased a widescreen RPTV, have calibrated it using either Avia or Video essentials and are about to watch your first dvd movie on it--akin to christening a ship with a champaign bottle. 1) What movie did you use for your christening--I mean for your first viewing and why...
I currently have Comcast digital cable and will soon be getting (or buying) Comcast's set-top box in order to receive HDTV (a couple of channels worth anyway). Will they use fiber optic cable instead of the coaxial cable that's coming into my home now? Just curious--Dale
