Does region coding work by machine coding or IP address? I purchased my Bluray in the USA, but I'm using it in Bermuda, and for some reason this disc simply will not work. It is my only Bluray giving me trouble *&!@#$!
Those who have quiet home theaters need to be wary of endorsements of PS3 as a bluray player. I utterly regret the advice I took from HT mags and websites, because so few mentioned the fan noise, if at all. This is an utter deal-breaker if you listen in a silent environment.
We need a poll 1. I am using an outboard processor connected via toslink/coax and I do have lipsync problems 2. I am using an outboard processor connected via toslink/coax and I don't have lipsync problems 3. I am using an outboard processor connected via HDMI and I do have lipsync...
I concur. With THD the lip sync is debatable. I don't think I would have noticed it had I not experienced it on DD first, which looks like a 1980's kung fu movie.
Perhaps I am just angered more by it? Lip sync that is noticeable at all is atrocious in my opinion. I hate the idea that I've bought these DVDs a second time, and may find them problematic due to a noticeable sync issue. This just isn't cool. I mean, what are they using to test these discs?
Anyone else experiencing lip syncing problems with The Matrix HD-DVD? I'm using a Toshiba XA1 with the latest firmware, and the problem is atrocious! I doublechecked that the firmware upgrade didn't knock out any other DVDs, and the problem appears to be specific to The Matrix. :-(
I swear, it just cracks me up how Matrix fans are compelled to insult anyone who believes that the 2nd and 3rd films were complete trash. I actually enjoyed the Fountain despite the fact that it is by far DA's worst film. Unlike Matrix 2 and 3, I still see this as very worthy art, and I actually...
This film is like a painting. A beautiful, but mostly incoherent painting. You also need to be aware that the studio pulled the plug and then relit the project. My gut feeling is that this screwed the process up.
I just popped in my SD copy to compare to the HD copy. To be perfectly honest, this is not a system seller. Most people would have a hard time telling what improvements HD is making, and would likely be turned off. Play both discs and see for yourself. 60" screen.
I just saw HDTV on a 50" Sony 1080p plasma. To be perfectly honest, my response was that the picture on my 60" RPTV is really fantastic. I paid a lot for my Pioneer Elite 610HD, but the investment is well worth it when U57 really doesn't look that much better than regular DVD. I just wasn't...
With the deep discounts I'm seeing on Amazon, and the positive news I'm reading on the Toshiba firmware upgrades, I may bite for Christmas. I honestly cannot justify blueray at those prices, and I hope they lose for that reason alone.
It cracks me up how consumers completely shoot themselves in the foot. Blueray deserves at best a C for providing worse or no better picture quality than HD-DVD for double the price! The press should be lauding Toshiba for introducing this technology at such a great price, and challenging Sony...
I think this film is really aimed at those who playd the very best silent hill game ever, Silent Hill 2. The movie nailed all the elements of that game perfectly. I felt the same sense of dread and horror watching the film. Yikes!
That's just dumb, and consumers are much smarter these days. These guys need to come up with compelling reasons to upgrade, plain and simple. I'm now on my third "reference quality" DVD player, and I see no point in getting rid of it until it breaks. I can make it real simple for you - you...
The one surefire way to have gotten me to adopt a high def format would have been if the DVDs were backwards compatible with present DVD players. If I could acquire the discs and use them now in SD, and then once I have enough titles upgrade my player, that would have been awesome. Or perhaps...
I think manufacturers need to realise that unlike LD and VHS, DVD is already a great product. If they want us to adopt something else, then they need to make a compelling argument. Merely better picture quality simply isn't enough.
I haven't bothered to jump into either format, because I simply don't have a compelling reason to do so, even at $500. Regular DVD is fine for me, and I'm not about to replace my current 350 title collection. Further, a crappy movie is still a crappy movie in HD. The first run of titles is...
And now that the colors are straightened out, again we've demonstrated that regular DVD looks pretty good. The HD folks need to step up their game or drop the price to regular DVD player prices. $500 and below - no more.
Those DVD captures look terrible - not because of the technology, but because of the calibration. Damon looks like he swallowed a bottle of suntan pills. Everything is orange (and thus ugly). Give us comparisons with the same colors.
Same here. My favourite films are 40yrs old anyway :-) I don't know about the rest of you, but they'll have to do a lot more than the above to get me to upgrade titles I already own. Gladiator on my 6yr old RPTV looks excellent. If someone was to let me trade my old discs in for a decent...
What is so super about this film? It was no real challenge to the actors, and in terms of content, it wasn't very educational. I don't feel I know anything much at all about Mac Carthy or politics of that era. Don't feel like I was really educated on Morrow other. Pretty shallow if you asked me.
