How do people feel about buying open box or floor model versions of these TVs? There have been some good deals that I've seen (yesterday I saw the 42" Sony LCD for $1180), but I'm nervous about the floor models because of the bulb. Any thoughts?
quick question for you guys: on the TV Authority website (http://www.tvauthority.com/DLP-TV-HD...-HL-S4266W.asp), it says that the HLS4266W is capable of 480p, 1080i and 720p. but if the resolution is only 1280 x 720, how can it do 1080i? or can't it?
Ha, I am also considering both of those televisions. My parents have one of the first Samsung 50" DLPs and it is a gorgeous television. Based on that alone, I would lean towards the Sammy. I haven't done a ton of research as yet, but is it the case that you cannot get a 1080i LCD or DLP...
I was really skeptical at first, but now I'm pretty excited. I think the potential for totally different games is amazing. FPS, racing, being able to swing Link's sword in a Zelda game, wow. As for 3rd party support, it totally depends on how well Nintendo markets the system. If they launch with...
Radiohead (The best band ever. No, really.) Radiohead Radiohead Pearl Jam Metallica Audioslave The White Stripes Led Freaking Zeppelin (the best rock band ever) Those are my favorites, but I'm also a big fan of The Beatles (duh), The Stones, A Perfect Circle, Tool, and Queen. Did I...
Like I said, I can see some comparison to Pablo Honey/The Bends era Radiohead, but not to OK Computer, and certainly not to Kid A, Amnesiac or Hail to the Thief. STP has been compared to PJ? I never have thought they sounded even remotely the same.....Pearl Jam just blows them away.
:D As for their piano work, I think Coldplay uses quite a bit more, and it seems that overall they are a bit more mellow than Radiohead. But they are clearly still a ripoff. :D
I can't say I understand the comparisons to Radiohead. Some of Coldplay's stuff sounds like The Bends, but by and large they are much different (and not anywhere near as good as RH), and not nearly as experimental. And I liked A Rush... but I wouldn't have it anywhere close to one of the best...
I agree about the Beatles and Zeppelin. Another band is Radiohead, whose first album was relative crap but everything since has been great. OK Computer was their best, but they've had three since that have been very very good. They've done a great job of dealing with the fame and money, kind of...
I like Soundgarden, but I don't have any of their albums, just the A-Sides disc. That said, I don't like it nearly as much as either of Audioslave's CDs.
I really loved their first CD, too. If you expect a big progression, you'll be disappointed, but if you want more of the last, you'll like it. It's a better album.
There are some good rockers...Your Time Has Come, Out of Exile, Drown Me Slowly, Man or Animal, and The Worm. Though the rest isn't as hard as the first album, I think it's better. They sound less like two different bands merged into one and more like their own group. Plus, I think the last...
I'm trying to help my friend buy an HDTV on a ~$1000 budget. Both of these TVs are on sale at Ultimate Electronics, the Zenith for about $1100, the Panny for about $1000. Panny Zenith Frankly, the Panny didn't look great and had some glare issues, and it also seemed the viewing angle...
Thanks, Brett. By the way, if you're looking to switch to digital cable, I wouldn't recommend Comcast if it's in your area. What a complete joke. Go with the dish if Comcast is your only cable choice. BTW, is there a variable record length mode? For instance, can you record for 2.5 hours if...
Rick, Thanks for the info on the Wal-Mart player. I'm always a little wary of going for deals like that, though, especially for a brand I have not heard of. Do you think it is a safe buy? I worry that players like that will be totally substanderd or plagued with problems.
They have this player for about $324 at Everything 4 Electronics. It seems like a really good player for the price, with some really nice features. Do you guys still like yours? Does anyone else have any comments on this player? I'm leaning towards getting it since I've had good luck with Sony...
My only thought with regard to the Wal-Mart deal is that it is a brand I've never heard of (though I'm no expert) and they sell it at Wal-Mart (which I dislike as much as most people on this forum dislike Bose). If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. But...if there's anyone on this...
Would it make more sense to get a TV Tuner card for my computer and get a DVD writer for that? Then I could probably get a dual-layer writer (though they are a bit slow now). It doesn't sound as convenient, but perhaps more flexible. My only concern is being able to burn a show onto the DVD in...
I've looked at that one too, and it looks pretty nice, but I noticed that it doesn't have a digital input for recording in DD 2.0. Don't most models have this feature?
Alright, well I've done my searching on this topic so as to not annoy, but either I'm incompetant or all the posts are old enough such that I think a new one may be in order. So here goes. I'm looking for a DVD recorder to possibly get this Christmas, in the price range given. Does anyone...
I'm new to this topic myself, and I'm still researching, so I may be wrong on this. However, wouldn't it also be an option to get a DVD recorder that included DVD-RAM? I believe that those let you record and watch at the same time. You'll also want a player with DVD-R, or something else as well...
What a fantastic ending to one of the best Trek seasons ever.
I've heard (though I can't confirm) that Bakula said on a talk show they filmed several different endings depending on what UPN decided. Presumably, they went with this one when they found out the show was renewed. This may...
I really liked both sequels, but there is something I don't get. At the end of the first movie, after Neo has realized he is the One, he is talking into a phone to the machines right before he flies away. During this, there is a "System Error" which seems to indicate to me he caused some...
