I receive clear enough text with a 640x480 desktop on my HDTV (not using HD input) with the s-vhs TV-out from the conexant bt869 on my Geforce card. Most of the time I can us TVtool to get 800x600 to look clear, but both settings are fuzzy meaning you can see the words but the pixels are gone...
Progressive scan DVD players can usually display 4:3 content in 480p format but the progressive mode is generally optimized for 16:9 aspect ratio diplays and, yes, most 16:9 widescreens are also HDTVs. But there are so many sets out there that your Panasonic may be capable of progressive 4:3...
Does anyone know if the Sony/Philips/Pioneer high definition DVD format is still being looked at? It seemed like the awesome innovation for the HDTV owner with 5-6 times at many pixels per frame of an entire movie on a 25gig blue-laser disk. Just haven't heard anything since CES 2001...
Philips has been making direct view 16:9 sets for western European markets for about two years, and 2000 US$ is about the average for a 40" set, but you can't get them in the U.S. (not enough demand?) British stores are apparently selling alot of them.
The HDTV encoder for XBOX (from Conexant) is popping up on 75% of all the new Nvidia AGP cards, so it looks like TV-out capable PCs might follow suit at well. The Conexant chip is actually a complete ATSC encoding device, so it does all TV formats including HDTV.

The XBOX is the only console so far that offers true HDTV output (not just 480p), using a PC chip from Conexant, a company which collaborates with Nvidia on PC-TV solutions.
What I want to know is will they put out a GeForce card with HDTV-output for big screen PC gaming. I currently use...
