Unprotected/unencrypted DVD, DVD sourced backup discs, Laserdisc sourced backup discs WILL NOT UPSCALE over component on the PS3 at all... 480p for all of the above regardless of what setting I choose in the BD settings menu. Every one of the discs I mention above which will not upscale on...

My 1.8 updated PS3 doesn't upscale non-macrovision protected or back-up DVDs over component at all... Tested a few Anchor Bay titles known to be unprotected and a few back-up DVDs over component on a VW-10HT projector; regardless of settings (normal, double scaling, etc.) under blu-ray...

Mark, I understand completely... I have a lot of movies that for various reasons, I will probably never watch again. But they are part of "the collection" and are kept for that reason only. I also feel that there may come a time when someone else may want to watch one of those DVDs that I may...

Great suggestion... but it is all or nothing for me. I want the disc, box, cover art, inserts... everything. Truth be known, I even save the "director approved" or "special 3-disc set" stickers that were on the disc at the time of original purchase, if at all possible. Still, that is a great...

OK, all you serious collectors out there... Due to space restraints, I'm attempting to thin my collection (now approaching 2700 DVDs) of some doubles acquired due to updating/upgrading. The following have all been replaced with more recent editions. My question is for all you earnest...
