I have Elephant on vinyl. It is a double album so there are 4 sides of music. 3-4 songs per side. Sounds pretty damned good. Taking into account the length of the songs, each side falls well under 18 minutes. I have never critically compared the two releases against each other, so I can't give a...
I love this release. The sound is pretty killer, great documentary, good picture. Extras are also quite good. I would definately reccomend picking it up.
Well everyone will inevitably have a problem with these kinds of things, and my beef lies with its bias towards 60's and 70's "classic rock". No daring choices in the top 100, just the same revered albums that these types of lists always pick. It dissapoints me that truly great albums like...
The Shins - Chutes to Narrow...probably the best thing i've heard all year. Nick Drake - Pink Moon (older, but fits your tastes i think) Eliott Smith - XO, Self Titled, Either/Or Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights Bright Eyes - Lifted
I am interested in purchasing DVE for the DTS tones and rear center speaker tones, but I am worried about all these problems people are having with the LFE channel. Are there any other good calibration discs with DTS tones (I suspect that for some reason my channel levels are incorrectly matched...
I reccomend, Daydream Nation, Sister, Murray Street...in that order. Daydream Nation is one of the best albums ever in my estimation. Those reccomendations for The Pixies and My Bloody Valentine I also second.
I really don't think it is an issue of being "more sensitive" to the DTS mix. I mean, the surrounds are really overpowering. For example, in Gladiator, in the dolby digital mix when he enters the colliseum for the first time, the surrounds pick up the sounds of the crowd all around him, but are...
After calibrating my system using Video Essentials (not DVE), my system, when played back in Dolby Digital, sounds pretty damned good. Everything sounds very well balanced. However, when I play a DVD using DTS, it is invariably much too loud in the surrounds. It is too the point of distraction...
Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True, This Year's Model The Rolling Stones - 40 Licks, Exile on Main St. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People Those are the best that I have heard from those bands. But...they all have pretty extensive discographies. I personally disagree with the "greatest hits"...
Bands I have seen live of some note: The Strokes The White Stripes (2) The Faint Bright Eyes The Vines The Flaming Lips Interpol (2) The Roots Ben Kweller Upcoming: Television Radiohead The Strokes All Tomorrow's Parties (featuring: Eliott Smith, Spoon, Built to Spill, Sonic...
Micahel, I've had the pleasure of seeing The Flaming Lips live at the Warfield when they came to SF. You're right, they are definately best live. One of the craziest, most enjoyable and overwhelmingly positive concerts I've ever been to. The Flaming Lips are definately a band that loves and...
Is there any website out there that reviews vinyl releases of new albums, in terms of both musical content, and also sound quality? I am more interested specifically in a site that deals with sound quality of new pressings. Thanks.
I think any Weezer fans would definately dig Built to Spill. Similar styles, and both are very catchy. Check out "Big Dipper", "Cleo", "Twin Falls", or "Reasons", all of which are off "There's Nothing Wrong With Love", which pitchfork ranked as the 11th best album of the 90's.
There is still a lot of great rock out there...though most of it originated in places where the average Led Zeppelin fan wouldn't bother to look. Some of the really good bands right now, who are semi-popular and trendy, like The Strokes or Interpol, have their roots in bands like The Velvet...
I've seen them twice now, once at The Warfield, and once at BFD. Both times they were outstanding, though they clearly preferred playing at The Warfield. Great great live performance, one of the best I've seen.
I saw this movie on television late one night, and remember liking it quite a bit. I can't seem to find any reviews of the DVD on any of the usual sites (DVDFILE, The Digital Bits), so I'm wondering how the quality of the current dvd is? It looks like it is a bare bones disc...which is...
Ok, so today I went out and bought a Creek preamp for a B&O turntable that my parents own, which I moved downstairs. Hooked it all up to my Rotel RSX 1065 reciever and it plays, but, when it does there is a very noticeable humming sound coming out of the speakers. Anybody have any idea what...
I first heard them last year when they released White Blood Cells, and I pretty much fell in love with them instantly. Elephant is definately their best release to date, and I might agree that the more you listen, the more you will love them. They are pretty "basic" as you say, but that is part...
OK so I was familiar with Nirvana's cover of "Jesus Don't Want Me For a Sunbeam" from their Unplugged album, but I had never heard the original. Recently, on a whim, I listened to the original, as well as "Son of a Gun", "Molly's Lips", and "Lovecraft". These are all great songs. "Son of a Gun"...
Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline Van Morrison - Astral Weeks The Kinks - The Kink Kontroversy Joe Henry - Fuse Lou Reed - Transformer Jeff Buckley - Grace I love Amoeba Music's used section.
I was recently reccomended this album (Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea) by a friend and it has quickly become one of my favorite albums of all time. It has some of the most gorgeous melodies, and heartfelt lyrics I've ever heard. Anybody else out there love (or hate) this...
