Good lord, I can't believe it took nearly 8 years from the time I made this thread to finally get an R1 DVD of this flick. That's pretty sobering.
Anywho, I've got it in my hands and the picture looks very accurate to me. I'm pretty pleased with it, except of course, for the absence of the...
Chalk me up as another recent DigitalEyes victim. I placed a small order well over a week ago, subsequently paid for the item, and still have no confirmation or response from them after emails. Update: Well, I surprisingly got through just minutes after posting this and they assured me...
I signed up for Nicheflicks yesterday, actually. Just the fact that they have Dellamorte Dellamore was reason enough. I'll see how the two week trial goes before I commit, though. I'll probably post my thoughts in a couple of days. Off Topic: Speaking of Cemetery Man, somebody should...
I know this was released by both Criterion and Anchor Bay, yet both editions are out of print. Who currently owns the rights? This is in need of a bigtime re-release.
I had a brain lapse while writing the original post. Check it again. As for why the rights are scattered... I'm not exactly sure. I know that while most of these were produced by the Daiei Films, a handful weren't, which may explain things a bit.
No. 26 (Zatoichi, 1989) is being released by Media Blasters. The fate of No. 14 (Zatoichi's Pilgrimage) is still hazy as far as I know. Man, trying to keep up with these is brutal.
I'll throw in the perspective of a horror/cult/foreign film fan such as myself (for the record, I own somewhere around 500). I can't tell you how many times, before the advent of DVD and the internet, I'd go digging for obscure films at the local mom and pop, retail, and pawn shops... in dark...
According to dvdmaniacs, these will be full frame only while 4 (for some ungodly reason) will have the option of both full and anamorphic widescreen. I mean, 2 was a decent sequel and 3 was a beautiful exercise in over-the-top 80's action hilarity, but only the terrible 4 gets the wide...
The Korean (Starmax) R0 2-Disc may be the best bet in terms of bang-for-your-buck quantity (DTS, no subs extras disc), but the font used for the subs are terrible. Everything is on what might be described as "extra extra bold", and is legible, but quite distracting. Also, I believe it uses...
Aside from the new edition of Nosferatu, which was just recently made available, the films in the box (including My Best Fiend) have been available seperately since 2000.
It's definitely one of the coolest box sets I've seen. Those multi-colored slimline cases are pretty nifty. As far as the films go, I was slightly disappointed with Aguirre, only to be completely blown away by Woyzeck and Fitzcarraldo. I saw Nosferatu many years ago and haven't gotten around...
At about the 28 minute mark, when Pink says "Is he dead or what?" and White says "He ain't dead", on my old vhs tape it has White also saying "I think he's just passed out", but it's not on the DVD. A mistake in the sound mix maybe? Doesn't bother me too much, but wanted to make note of it...
I picked this one up a few days ago. Overall, it's a really nice deal, but there's an audio mix error in the "Something Smells" episode that irks me to no end.
When Spongebob is telling Patrick about how everyone is running away from him, he walks up to a building and the audio is supposed to...
Well, I finally got my Avia and have calibrated my TV accordingly, and I must say that while the picture is indeed better looking, my problems with excessive chroma noise still exist. I've come to the conclusion that it must be my player. Can anyone recommend a player that can eliminate my problem?
Actually, I don't think it's a brightness problem so much as a contrast problem. The first thing I did when I got my Wega was turn the brightness down a LOT (hell, I had to just to get rid of the uneven brightness strip at the top). Then I turned the contrast up a lot as well. The result is...
Well the main reason I'm wanting to get a new one, aside from not being able to take advantage of component video with my current player (no comp. outputs), is that I'm not entirely satisfied with what I'm seeing onscreen. Darker colors are full of noise, even on what many consider to be...
Well, the time has come to buy a new player. I've had the RCA RC5210P for nearly 4 years and have decided to lay that baby to rest and upgrade. So the question is what next?
I've been looking into progressive scan mainly to sort of future-proof myself, for an HDTV probably lies somewhere in my...
I had heard a while back that USA Films were releasing a special edition of Lost Highway late this year. Well, here we are, and I haven't heard anything else. Anyone?

You talkin' to me?
Cemetery Man is owned by Fox, so I doubt it will be released anytime soon. Though with the impending Anchor Bay releases of two of director Michele Soavi's other films, perhaps someone should bring it up in the upcoming AB chat.
