    The Stanley Kubrick Archives...

I really don't understand all the fuss about this. First of all, the transfers for the movies you mention have absolutely nothing to do with Pan & Scan, as they are open matte transfers. Second, and more importantly, regardless of what Kubrick wanted, these transfers perfectly reflect the...

    The Stanley Kubrick Archives...

I have taped an interview with Johanna Ter Steege just after Kubrick died, and (from memory) she said that shooting had already been scheduled, but was delayed by one month for several times, and after about eight months Kubrick canceled the project. He had his eyes on her because of watching...

    2001 Special Edition?

I remember hearing that two actual cuts of the doc were made: one by Stanley and one by Vivian (which was aired). Regarding 2001, I have some snippets of interview footage of Kubrick at the NY premierre. I'd like to see the full version of this. Anyone remember this footage?

    The Urination Shivers?

I believe morning wood also "helps" with getting me the pee shivers..... In scientific terms: Morning wood + having to go badly => pee shiver And, for the thread-hijacking shower peeing people: Morning wood + having to go badly + going in the shower = clean toilet floor

Seven Samurai - 2 Disc Special Edition???

Yojimbo, and also Sanjuro, are possiblities because the current dvd's of these movies are pretty poor. There's nothing wrong with the fairly recent Ikiru and Rashomon dvd's however, and these will probably not be redone...

"Picnic at Hanging Rock" (1975) - Wanted in 16x9!

Gordon, I did order Picnic about two weeks ago at ezydvd, but canceled it because another item (Before Sunset/Sunrise) wouldn't ship. I'll probably get it one of these days.... Heard nothing about The Passenger, but I have to admit I'm not really closely following Dutch dvd news sites. I'll...

"Picnic at Hanging Rock" (1975) - Wanted in 16x9!

Fearless is in more need of a nice, shiny new SE. IMO, of course. :) Regarding Picnic at Hanging Rock: I now own the German disc, which is already my fourth dvd version of this great film. I'm still in doubt about getting the Australian disc, but a disc containing the theatrical cut is what's...

Best Tragic Love Story on DVD

I actually had that in my response, but decided to delete it. I guess because I felt it wasn't the sort of tragic love story tragic love story lovers love to watch. ;)

Any news on Raging Bull:SE? (MERGED THREAD)

DVD Producer Van Ling once said in a HTF chat: I think the same applies to commentaries. Three commentaries don't take up that much room, and thus it would be inefficient to re-encode the whole thing just so one consumer can see the difference three inches from his 100'' screen. :)

    The Roulette Wheel (probability) question

If this is a hoax it's an elaborate one, as the original arrest six months earlier was also reported: http://www.nu.nl/news.jsp?n=296181&c=50 (03/22/04 - Sorry, Dutch only) http://www.sundayherald.com/40874 (03/28/04 - with an alternate "evil eyes" theory)

    The Roulette Wheel (probability) question

I guess it refers to the strategy from the original poster. While the 14 rolls weren't the same color, playing black for 14 rolls in a row (and each time doubling the bet) would have lost the better a lot of money....

    The Kingdom ?

Just a little heads up.... I've found out that the superior Danish release has been re-released in seperate parts and both are available at "bargain" prices: Part 1 (2 discs): 99 DKK (~$17 US) Part 2 (2 discs): 99 DKK (~$17 US)

    The Kingdom ?

If you mean the 4 disc Danish release of parts 1 & 2 , then yes there's news: it's very good. I've owned the Canadian Seville version and the British DVD, and the Danish version is so much better. Better AV quality, no cuts, original 4 part structure, and much better extras - what more can you...

A few things that bother me...before I forget

I hate it when artists lip-synch vocals that just could never be generated live on stage. For instance, remember Cher a few years ago, with "Believe". If you can't perform live, fine, but please re-record the track with more realistically sounding vocals for "live" performances. I also hate...

DVD Review HTF Review: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Collector's Edition

I was able to sell the original disc for a good price (I believe $16-17) immediately after I heard of this CE, so I'll be upgrading this one. No hurries though, and I've ordered it with the upcoming Scorsese set so save on postage. Let's hope it has its effect on the Academy and grabs some...

DVD Review HTF Reviewers Pick: Their FAVORITE DVD Releases Of 2004

No need to, as I've already read them. I'm sorry if you got the impression, but I didn't mean to imply at all that you've treated one or more studios better than others, as I fully realize these lists are nothing more than good old honest, personal taste. :) Now we're at it, one...
