Thanks Nhan_H and Lew for being so nice by offering the demos and help. I will probably head to some stores and see what is around first of all. Most of these recommendations from everyone seem to be great solutions for our living room theater. So I have a lot of homework to do now! I may...
Jerome Yes, the family room is one of those "great" rooms that have the second floor open to the bottom and you can see the stair railing along the top hallway. This is another reason why I'm not too worried about a top notch sound system in there...
Hey Chris Thanks for that info on the HK! Lew The cherry finish would not match the living room - everything is in this light (almost white) oak finish with a sort of "milkwash" detail on it. But thanks for the link - I will still check it out.
I finally noticed that the living room receiver is a Harmon Kardon AVR30!!!?! It's so old that the specs don't even show up on the manufacturer's web site under older stuff anymore! Guess I'll have to talk the husband into a bigger budget for the living room! :) I will definitely research...
Thanks for the recommendations. I plan on going to listen to those speakers pretty soon. It has crossed my mind to check on the old receiver to see if it will meet the new standards. Thanks for the heads up on that one too.
I'd like to put somewhat of a home theater setup (5.1) in a rather large family room. We presently have an older model Harmon Kardon a/v receiver (will have to add model # later on as can't remember it). The room is 17' long, 23' wide and 20' high. The tv is located in a corner of the room...
Hey DavidJohn I've had the NSP1 set up along with a JBL 12 inch sub for about a year and it sounds great. Just one word of caution when ordering a powered subwoofer online - make sure they have a good warranty! I used an online place to order a 12 inch sub for my dad and it turns out that...
This thread is soooo funny! In my house the roles are reversed with a really nice twist. My Department of Finance has allowed me to run slightly amuck planning out the media room! What started out as a $12k budget for everything has ballooned into $15k and we haven't bought the speakers yet...
What is the advantage with using TIVO or Ultimate TV and how much extra does it cost per month? What's a good place to buy these type of receivers and what brands are better (RCA, Sony, etc)? Thanks Lisa
Can anyone tell me if any satellite receivers are better/worse than others? I am moving into a new house and plan on getting Directv. I will need 2 standard, dolby digital receivers and one hdtv receiver. I have used a Sony previously and totally loved it but now they seem to be discontinued and...
Hi Todd. I'm originally from Marrero so I know what kind of audio dealers are in your area.
I think everyone's suggestions are good ones. I just didn't want to take any chances with this not-so-cheap receiver. I got my 3802 the day after Thanksgiving from the Great Indoors for $900 on sale...
I hate to be the one to break the news but I have an old Sony receiver which has also been freezing up on us. This has only happened since we starting using "the" card. But that's not my only troubles. Sometimes I won't receive all of the transponder signals! So channel 50x will work but...
Jeff
Do your Energy speakers sound great for both movies and music? I've heard that Energy didn't sound great for playing music. I haven't listened to the speakers yet myself so this is only what I've been told (not flaming here). I really like dance music and lots of bass...
I plan on...
Hey BryanZ
The room is 19 x 14. I prefer bookshelf size over the tower speakers. The room is open to the kitchen on the side opposite of where the tv is placed. My budget is $500-$1000.
I don't have problems with online places (any suggestions?) except that my dad's JBL PB12 sub just blew...
I have decided to get the Denon 3802. Now I'm thinking along the lines of JBL, Polk or Energy speakers to go with it (surround satellites and at least a 10" sub). I've listened to both JBL and Polk. I plan on checking out a store with the Energy speakers set up fairly soon. The JBL and Polk...
This is kind of off the subject...
My parents got the JBL NSP1 set up with the PB-12 subwoofer back in April. The whole thing totally rocks! A week ago the subwoofer just died for no apparent reason. It was on and the volume wasn't turned up very high or anything but it just died (no power...
Thanks Mark
Thanks Vin
I do have an a/v receiver at the present time with surround sound speakers. It's a rather old Onkyo set up that I received in 1995 (not dolby digital). So will the dolby digital satellite receiver (SAT-A55) make a difference in the playback through my surround system??
I presently do not own a Digital A/V receiver. I can't afford the ones I really want for at least a year or so. Would it be worth it to get a Digital Satellite receiver in the meantime? Will I notice a difference in the sound quality?
Thanks
Lisa
