With all the money in publishing and collecting royalties, you would think the Gershwin estate could throw in a few dollars.
Calling Michael Feinstein......
The Blu-ray is a vast improvement. And they offer the 5.1 sound that was on the DVDe in the audio menu. I think the movie was originally mono, but Paramount had the stereo music masters and having the music in stereo is a plus for Alfred Newman's score
Glad to see THE COUNTERFEIT TRAITOR to Blu-ray. The old DVD had a 5.1 soundtrack, although the movie was originally released in mono. Paramount found the stereo music stems and made a new mix incorporating the stereo music. Being one of Alfred Newman's last scores, I would hope this option would...
For Blu-ray release, here are a few Warner 40s films I would love to have.
ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO
ONE FOOT IN HEAVEN
ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN
SILVER RIVER (just to get rid of that MOD version that have low sound bumps throughout the entire film.)
ROUGHLY SPEAKING (underrated film)
BY THE LIGHT...
I don't think you could say MAD WORLD is officially completed without the scenes that are now "still photos" somehow showing up. I know the chances are unlikely, but surprises like that do show up from time to time. My fantasy is: back in the day when the full 70mm roadshow prints went out and...
Has anyone documented what is still missing from the premiere cut of MAD WORLD? I think the intermission police calls were one of the first things to go. And the few scenes with only stills are still missing, but were included because they had the original soundtrack for those portions. Also, is...
I am sure this list has been posted before, but here is an alphabetical list of the Universal serial titles VCI now has rights to release. I understand the missing titles are those that rights have reverted back to the original creators or entities, such as the FLASH GORDON serials, as well as...
Am I correct in saying the included Blu-ray with the 4K version is updated to this new restoration? Think I read that somewhere and that applies to all the Blu-Ray discs in this particular Columbia series.
If you listen to the Jewish piece and compare the album to the film's soundtrack, the orchestration is much more conservative than the soundtrack. Listen carefully to the clarinet.
Maybe they used the vocal tracks and layered the new orchestration under it. Never thought of that.
When I got the...
Sometimes I wonder is Universal knows about stereo films. A friend that worked for Universal told me they magnetic stripped film reels for IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, but said on the cans, Spanish track. When played, they turned out to be the 3 track stereo version of the film. Wasn't it first...
What a strange release for TAP ROOTS is; from Kino. It seems to have been announced and shortly after, released on Blu ray with little fanfare. I noticed the copyright date on the sleeve said 1958, which I assumed was a misprint, but when viewing the film, the copyright was indeed listed as...
Around Christmas time last year, there was a lot of talk about LIFE WITH FATHER coming to blu via the Warner Archives. Was this hopeful wishing, or does anyone know if it is in the works?
I don't know the process of mastering these things, but I would assume what they get from Universal, they check for any anomalies. I am sure Shout has fans of these films working there in various capacities. PILLOW OF DEATH is so below the look of the other films, I would think someone would...
I did a quick spotting of all the films.
Disc One: Everything seems okay. "Calling Dr. Death" and "Weird Woman" may have newer transfers since the credits are not window boxed. "Dead Man’s Eyes" is an older transfer based only on the full screen credits.
Disc Two:
"The Frozen Ghost" has a...
It sure does and looks Blu ray quality. It has a Columbia logo on it somewhere, so I assumed Columbia, which has most of the Capra films, added it to their library.
I believe USC did a restoration of Alias Nick Beal several months ago or even late last year.
I would also love to have on blu Paramount's (Universal) 1944 The Unseen. It was promoted as sort of a companion film to The Uninvited, and is not as good, but creepy, great sets and photography and...
I thought the blu ray is just okay. My biggest complaint is one reel having several vertical black lines and 1 white (scratches) on the right side that is extremely distracting and continues for the entire reel. I guess it's easier to get rid of reel change markings than continuous lines...
