Nick Lowe's "Marie Provost" - it's about the obscure silent film actress Marie Prevost. In addition to being one of Lowe's catchiest tunes, it also has a gruesomely funny line about Prevost's ultimate fate: "She was a winner / Who became the doggie's dinner."
Color Key (all the colors of the rainbow...) RED films denote a movie in my current Top 10. GREEN films denote a movie in my current Bottom 10. GRAY films denote a movie that was either: A) Viewed last year (and has just seen wide release this year). B) Theatrical reissues. C) Foreign...
It has been stated before, but many of the people in Jason's annual Film List threads list EVERY movie they've seen that year, regardless of when it was released (there are examples of this on almost every page, starting with the very first list--Jason's). So some of us "bigger film dorks" are...
Hey, what's this doing on Page 2? I added 20 movies to my list on Page 1...this is what happens when you get lazy and don't update your list for 2 months. Now that we're in the "Please Give Me An Oscar" month, I'm planning to update my list on a weekly basis.
Finally updated the list with 15 films after a 2-month absence; my new job prevented me from regularly revising the list, but now that I'm used to normal working hours, I should be able to do bi-weekly/monthly updates.
While the end result was a bit flawed, I rather liked the idea of Let It Be...Naked, and it's one I would like to see explored further--alternate versions of the Beatles albums. I'd really like to see an official release of the complete White Album demos, all of which are lovely-sounding and...
Just thought I'd resurrect this thread to let people know that I recently picked up a copy of Mark Lewisohn's The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions at Borders for around $8. There was a huge stack of them in the discount pile; I can't guarantee every Borders will have it though.
I remember...
Well, color me embarassed; it seems the clerk I talked to was misinformed about the 3/$25 sale continuing, and the HV's I shop at are now selling PV movies at 3 for $30. Since I still find this to be a decent deal (considering most of these titles individually retail for $20 and up), I will...
Jeremy, I'm afraid I can't help you in regards to ripping audio tracks from a DVD, since I have never done it myself. However, there are programs like the following that should allow you do it fairly easily: http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-audio-ripper.html...
Proof positive that most people don't actually read the posts; they just usually glance at the final line.;) To answer your question: while I don't own the singles, a glance at the tracklists reveals that there is only one remix of "Alive," and that is located on the 2nd single--the "Bentley...
Another update: Bad Santa Barbershop 2: Back in Business The Big Empty The Butterfly Effect Club Dread Cold Mountain 50 First Dates The Fog of War Hollywood North House of Sand and Fog The Pianist The Reagans Secret Window Spartan The True Story of Seabiscuit The stores in my...
I guess this would be as good a place as any to list the following. Rhino announced they would release a pair of TH releases on August 17--an expanded The Name of This Band is Talking Heads and another compilation, The Best of Talking Heads. It will included the tracks from a Japanese promo that...
Can't say I do. However, Warner sure has been giving great care to older and obscure titles, whether it's something like The Film Noir Collection or creating SE's for two of Scorsese's most obscure films, After Hours and Who's That Knocking At My Door?. They might not be packed with bonus...
A minor update to the list: Catch That Kid Daddy Day Care The Event Frida I Spy Mystic River Passionada Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy The Rules of Attraction Run Ronnie Run Tully You Got Served Along with the aforementioned Triplets of Belleville and Bubba Ho-Tep.
Perhaps it's a ploy to get unsuspecting customers to buy the movie? "Look, it's Nicole Kidman! And she's happy! I think I'll give this a shot." Poor unsuspecting customer, they have no idea what they're going to get hit with. :)

Both of the HV's I go to have no intention of ending the sale anytime soon. BTW, I've been informed that both Bubba Ho-Tep and The Triplets of Belleville will be hitting the used racks tomorrow (I'll add it to the master list during the next update).

Is that "Smigel" as in Robert Smigel? If so, the man is a genius...in comedy, that is. I really don't know how he'll handle mixing comedy with action. Also:
 I love that episode!

IMHO, there is no need for you to buy Broad Street; simply read The Onion AV Club's writeup of the movie, which is vastly more entertaining than the actual film: http://www.theonionavclub.com/fttf/index.php?issue=4022 EDIT: And while I'm at it, I'll also link their writeup of that...
A somewhat minor update today, with only a handful of new titles, but a couple of them are quite excellent (Elephant, 21 Grams), along with our third anime movie on the list (Tokyo Godfathers) and another 2004 film (Chasing Liberty). Also, a couple of rumors: some HV's are supposedly selling...
Microcosmos was announced awhile back, but for some reason was shelved (you can still view the coverart at some sites). In the book Down and Dirty Pictures, Todd Haynes recalls being very angry at Miramax for putting out a barebones DVD of his Velvet Goldmine without even consulting him...
